Last week i bought George Michael's Faith lp. It was listed as NM or M- for the vinyl and VG+ for the sleeve but stated there was some water damage.

The seller has a couple of thousand sales, all bar three are positive.

Well the record was dirty, had two hairline scratches and surface noise on the title track. The sleeve is good but the water damage is quite significant.

I mentioned it, took a £5 discount (it would have cost me to return it) and left neutral feedback but a positive description. It was over-graded.

The seller gave me negative feedback and when i complained said i was a newbie and had no idea of grading.

Well in my mind NM is what my new purchases look like when they've been played once or twice. They don't ****ing hiss that's for sure and don't need cleaning.

Sounds like a pretty aggressive seller to me with the "i was a newbie and had no idea of grading" statement. Unless you wanted to throw gasoline on the smoldering embers I think I would have used a feather to get my point across rather than the 50lb sledgehammer of calling him a liar.

I should have Dave. But he'd got my back up by being a prick. I knew he'd bite. I've since blocked him so no idea of he's tried to reply.

I'm tempted to contact him asking if he wants to buy my Near Mint Peugeot 206. It's 18 years old, scratched and dented, squeaks a lot and has rust under the bonnet. The rear wiper doesn't work either. Nor the display on the cassette player. But other than those most minor of flaws it's practically like it's just been driven off the forecourt.

I also check to see how many negatives & neutrals they have. If there are too many of them I move on. I like to read a few of them to see what the problem was & how the seller responded.

Definitely check the feedback. Have had a mixed experience on Discogs. Some great, better than expected LPs and others were in abysmal shape and totally misgraded

Had some issues recently with a few sellers. Grading things VG or VG + and come completely scratched. They tell me to return them for refund so I’m out money for return shipping because of their mistake. I’m debating leaving negatives but I don’t want to get retaliatory negatives.

Not if you paid with Paypal. If it has been misgraded it has been incorrectly advertised and is the responsibility of the seller to pay the return shipment.

I’m concerned if I make a big deal then the seller will give me a retaliatory negative and then I can’t buy from sellers who have minimum buyer ratings. What should I do? Plus I really don’t want to ruin my perfect 100 percent buyer feedback

Just be polite, read 6 times and post once, and present the facts with a link to the Paypal page stating that he/she is responsible for the return shipping based on their rules. To let a seller bully you into eating the cost of return shipping because of their misrepresentation, willingly or not, just stinks of unacceptability in my books. Besides, on Discogs you can respond to feedback in feedback and state the truth for this unjustifiable negative. Just be polite. In fact, if the seller chooses that route Discogs can and will remove your retaliatory unjustifiable negative from the dishonest seller. I know because I had a similar situation where a seller put his same catalog number CD in the wrong release and when I told him so he left me negative feedback which Discogs removed once they were told the facts.
