Summer Flash Sale Up to 50% off August 25-26, 2023 Enjoy up to 50% off vinyl records and more from select Discogs sellers. The sale will start at 12:00 AM EDT on Friday, August 25, 2023, and run through 11:59 PM EDT on August 26, 2023. Discounts will already be applied to the items in each seller’s store.
One seller is advertising 50% off. And 50% of of what? The rest are in the 10-15% range. And again, off of what? Regular prices? Prices that they cranked up by 20% in the days or weeks leading up? Discogs is not a site where sellers operate based off a generally agreed upon MSRP. It’s literally a marketplace where supply:demand determine pricing on every item on a daily basis. I don’t understand this tactic at all.
Sorry, but this is nonsense. Saw it my email this morning and it was nonsense then, too. If Discogs were offering coupons to cut the cost of any order of a certain size, that would be one thing. But they aren't.
most sellers won't even negotiate a small discount, let alone 50%, but considering that vinyl (supposedly) is not selling very well, maybe this is for real. just asking, don't crucify me.
Looks like it varies. Under some sellers it just says "X% off" and others say "X% off on selected items" Discogs Summer Flash Sale 2023 | Discogs
I see, thank you. I was hesitant to think that they would mark down their entire stores at those percentages, but they seem large enough to be able to go for it and experiment.
I checked the sellers listed so far. A few have stuff that are on my want list so I'll if any of those get marked down. With the sale price it might actually help defer the cost of the shipping so it might be worthwhile
I also see a lot of items from my wantlist posted on these storefronts, but I'll look particularly at Kupiku. There's a lot of Japanese stuff I'm into and this might be a good opportunity to purchase in bulk, especially since shipping costs from there generally aren't cheap.
Have a look here too CDJapan : Japanese Anime, Jpop, Japanese music, Game music, Japanese movie, CD, DVD I bought a few cds recently from them. The prices were better than anything I could find on Discogs when taking account shipping especially as I was able to grab four items. On Discogs and eBay the prices tended to be higher and if they weren't the sellers only had one title I wanted and shipping one item made the whole thing cost prohibitive.
It's title dependent as I've found a lot of stuff on eBay to be priced much higher than any have sold on Discogs for a lot of items.
what i have found with discogs is this: 1 - you MUST first find what you are looking for 2 - you must then find it in the format that you want 3 - you must CHECK SHPPING COSTS...... shipping on discogs can be ****ing obscene (at times even illegal IMHO) 4 - check condition, i have had more than one CD that was supposedly VG+ or mint, they were not, but rather F- G. (got one just today that said case was graded VG+.....it was bent and wrinkled and flimsy as hell.) 5 - after you have done ALL of the above....move on to ebay and amazon.....a fair guesstimate is that 75% of the time you will find the same thing you are looking for at a much better price, and probably in better condition. and may of the seller there are just not very nice people, almost like they will LET you buy something from them. discogs is my last resort, after all other avenues have been expired.
Posted in the wrong thread. Must have confused this sale thread with the various complaint threads that are already going. Maybe a gort can move it
I was so outraged by this sale, that I drew the Discogs logo on a piece of paper and set fire to it in a plastic wastebasket. Which then melted.
Did anyone partake of this sale? Just got a "what we learned from our flash sale" email from Discogs. Honestly I forgot about it and didn't even investigate on the 29th.
There were a few sellers participating that had items on my want list. But I didn't participate. I didn't find the deals that great and I'm sure at least one of those sellers increased their prices on some of my items before the sale.
I had several things in my cart from different vendors, ready to pull the trigger. Then I did some searching around and realized I could find compatible prices from several sellers and didn't need to get caught up in it.
Yeah, I didn't get anything either. Not many worthwhile discounts and I didn't feel like I was going to be supporting a small business, since the sellers had thousands or tens of thousands of items in their inventories. I also found a US-based store that sells almost everything in my wantlist that Kupiku has, but at much better prices and lower shipping costs. I get the feeling this sale wasn't a huge success for Discogs.
Discogs sent this out earlier today. Not sure how to measure success, but they seem happy with things. It's cool to see ANY numbers from online retailers, so assuming the information is accurate, it's at least a date-point. "Discogs’ first-ever Summer Flash Sale was a success! Last weekend, we experimented with a promotional event to test how we can better promote sellers like you. More than 3,500 buyers helped support 11 independent sellers with their purchases. These participating sellers saw their average number of items per order increase to over 4.5 during the sale, more than double the current Marketplace average. We’re fine-tuning our process and hope to highlight more sellers in the future. We will keep you informed as we solidify upcoming opportunities. Sincerely, Discogs"
I bought 2 items from a seller I have used in the past so I know their rating and packing skills. Were the prices a deal, maybe. They were ok about 1 USD cheaper than other sellers but again I know the seller's ability which is worth $$ IMO. Was the sale a success, who knows, for me not much there but I have specific wants to fill holes in my collection as I'm not actively buying lots anymore just filling out missing pieces.
