This has always come off like two different parts of other songs cobbled together to make it sound like one. Both parts are good but I prefer the last part with Carl and wonder if that was the ending of something else. Brian's singing pulls down the opening part a bit. 4/5

Lines. The Carl tag raises this just above the excruciating category, for me. May have fit more on Loves You than Adult/Child.

    2/5

Yep. Another slice of the life of Brian. I've always like this one and thought it could replace several songs on MIU and improve it. Considerably. 4

Interesting how this version brings out the Bacharach touch:

I dig this - he made the tag a chorus, as I suggested, and put in a great instrumental break. It works even better this way.

"lines" - I'll take a slice of that. What's there is wonderful. Carl helping out again with a great tag, just as he did a few months earlier with the "Airplane" tag. 5/5, 9/10.

Lines - another of those Brian songs I just end up singing around the place! 4/5.

Shortenin Bread - not sure, probably 3/5. Isn't there another version as well, there is a faster backing track circulating.

I think that "On Broadway" is a fantastic track, particularly the backing track. Al does a competent job, though he does sound a bit strained.

I've never understood why some people abhor this track so much, I think the production is great and it fits very nicely on my 15 Big Ones compilation! Having said, that if the theme of Adult/Child is transformation, the song certainly does fit here lyrically. 5/5

There's nothing radical about the cover of On Broadway but I like Al's vocals and musically it fits nicely on (my) Adult/Child (playlist).

    4/5

On Broadway is my top favorite cover by BBs in the late 70's. It has a great vibe, and Al's lead vocal is sublime. 5/5

Backing track is overly repetitive - would work better if it started out a little more minimalist and then built up to the wall of sound as the song progressed, it would give the song dynamics and variation it very much needs. Perhaps a Mark and Alan remix could really improve it. Al’s vocal isn’t bad but there’s something about the enunciation at times that bothers me - he could sing this better. And again, not much variation in the delivery. He sounds bored. And the backing vocals - they don’t even sound like The Beach Boys! This had promise - and it would have been better than several covers on 15 Big Ones - but as it stands I can only give this a 2/5.

Broadway - Good enough but certainly not some sort of 5 star masterwork IMO. 3

I like On Broadway - 3, maybe 4. I would have preferred it on a 15BO covers album, though.

OB, I can generally take it or leave it which is about the same way I felt about the original. Al does a good job of singing the song and I like the sax treatment quite a bit but would I listen to it again?? Can't pick this one apart so I'll go 4/5.

"On Broadway" is a favorite Al vocal, for me. Not my favorite version, that's the one by Liv Taylor, but good enough for a 4/5, 8/10.
