I misnamed a movie and placed it last in a sequence, spurring the following:

Thanks for the clarification/correction! I know "Four Crowns" came my way after the others, but I saw everything in budget houses; probably by then the order had gotten scrambled.

    Date: August 6, 2006

September 8-17, 2006.: World 3-D Expo II at the Egyptian Theatre in
    Hollywood

The new prints of the 3-D features and shorts have been coming in from the
film labs and they look tremendous! "Taza, Son of Cochise" looks like it
was shot yesterday; a stunning new print. And "Those Redheads From
Seattle" looks BETTER than the original dye-transfer prints did in 1953!
These 50 year old negatives are holding up remarkably well, allowing us to
show them properly, in 3-D, for the first time in over 50 years.

We'll be posting the "special guests" list as we get confirmations, but so
    far we can mention:

Rhonda Fleming and the Bell Sisters will be coming to "Those Redheads From
Seattle" on Friday, September 8. Leonard Maltin will conduct the Q&A.

Kathleen Hughes is confirmed for "It Came From Outer Space" on Saturday,
    September 9.

Stars Christina Hart and William Basil are confirmed for "The Stewardesses"
on Saturday, September 9, as are crew members Allan Silliphant
    (producer/director/writer) and Chris Condon (producer/cinematographer).

Mamie Van Doren will be here for "Hawaiian Nights" (short subject playing
with "Miss Sadie Thompson") on Sunday, September 10.

Kathleen Hughes will also be attending "The Glass Web" on Monday, September
    11.

Earl Holliman is planning to attend "Devil's Canyon" on Monday, September
    11.

For "House of Wax" on Tuesday, September 12, Paul Picerni will be there.

Biff Elliot, star of "I, the Jury", will be attending on Wednesday,
    September 13.

Jim O'Keefe, son of director/actor Dennis O'Keefe, will be attending the
screening of "Diamond Wizard" on Wednesday, September 13. "Diamond Wizard"
never had a 3-D playdate anywhere in the world until now! Jim was an extra
on the film, which was shot in England.

Julie Adams will be attending the 3-D repremiere of "Wings of the Hawk" on
    Thursday, September 14.

Of course, as mentioned previously, Slick Slavin will make his first public
appearance in decades for "Stardust in Your Eyes" (short subject playing
with "Robot Monster") on Saturday, September 16.

Udo Kier, the star of Paul Morrissey's "Frankenstein" is confirmed for
    Saturday, September 16.

For "Cease Fire" on Sunday, September 17, something very special: Some of
the actual soldiers who appeared in the film (and members of their
    families) will be attending.

Rhonda Fleming will also be attending the World 3-D Premier of "Jivaro" on
    Sunday, September 17.

And Warren Stevens will be appearing for "Gorilla at Large" on Sunday,
    September 17.

More guests are expected to confirm in the next week or two.

We will be updated the website as guests confirm and will send out another
    email in about 2 weeks.

Of course, NONE of the films will be shown in the anaglyphic (red/blue)
system; like Expo I, all of the "Golden Age" features and shorts will be
shown in 35mm and in the "double interlock" Polaroid System, the original
method (and still the very best method) for showing these films.

Note: Guest appearances subject to change.

Note: Schedule subject to change without notice.

UPDATE FROM SABU CAT & JEFF JOSEPH:

Only Limited Seats Available For Many Films!

    This year’s Expo includes:

    Those Redheads From Seattle
    Opening Night Film
    Friday September 8, 2006 7:30PM
Starring Rhonda Fleming, Gene Barry, Teresa Brewer, The Bell Sisters
The first musical ever shot in 3D, THOSE REDHEADS FROM SEATTLE is a wild, fun story about what happens when a mother moves to the Yukon with her four girls during the Gold Rush. The film features terrific songs from the legendary Johnny Mercer (“Laura,” “Moon River”), and the songwriting team of Jay Livingston and Ray Evans (“Silver Bells,” “Que Sera Sera”)
Following the screening, Rhonda Fleming and The Bell Sisters will participate in a Q & A moderated by Leonard Maltin

    Creature From The Black Lagoon
    Only limited seats available
    Sunday September 10, 7:00PM
    Starring Richard Carlson, Julia Adams
The last great Universal Horror Monster, the Creature is both scary... and sympathetic. This is a truly terrific film, not to be missed. If you've only seen this film in anaglyphic (red/blue), you haven't really seen it!

    Dial M For Murder
    Only limited seats available
    Saturday September 16, 2006 6:30PM
Starring Ray Milland, Grace Kelly, Robert Cummings
A Hitchcock classic, rarely seen in 3-D. Hitchcock purportedly was not happy with being forced by Jack Warner to shoot this in 3- D, but the results are a stage play with depth; the 3-D enhances this thriller and Hitchcock's disregarding of "gimmick shots" (mostly) adds to the creepiness.

    The Glass Web
    Monday September 11, 7:00PM
Starring Edward G. Robinson, John Forsythe, and Kathleen Hughes
Edward G. Robinson and John Forsythe star in Universal's and director Jack Arnold's second 3-D feature. This is one of the first films dealing with television production... and it's complicated by murder... in 3-D!

    House of Wax
    Only limited seats available
    Tuesday September 12, 9:45PM
Starring VINCENT PRICE, PHYLLIS KIRK, FRANK LOVEJOY
Fifty years later, HOUSE OF WAX still thrills, entertains, and reveals stereoscopic wonder. Advertised as the "First 3-D Film from a Major Studio", WAX was and still is the quintessential 3-D film. Although the one-eyed director de Toth couldn't see 3-D, he understood perspective and framing better than many cameramen.

    It Came From Outer Space
    Only limited seats available
    Saturday, September 9, 2006 6:30PM
Starring Kathleen Hughes, Richard Carlson, Barbara Rush
Based on a story by Ray Bradbury, “It Came From Outer Space” is a highly atmospheric film which stands on it own without 3-D. Director Jack Arnold spares the 3-D gimmicks, allowing a few "natural" effects to remind us its a 3-D adventure. Presented in stereophonic sound, only at the Expo!
Kathleen Hughes will participate in a Q&A preceding the screening

    Jivaro
    World 3-D Premiere!
    Sunday September 17, 7:00PM
Starring FERNANDO LAMAS, RHONDA FLEMING, RITA MORENO
Jungle headhunters in the actual Amazon jungle highlight this Technicolor adventure. This film was NEVER released in 3-D anywhere in the world: this will be the World 3-D Premiere! Brand new print

    Kiss Me Kate
    Only Limited Seats Available
Starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson, Ann Miller
    Friday September 15, 7:00PM
MGM's big 3-D production of the famous Broadway play. Flawless 3-D, colorful production numbers (including Bob Fosse), energetic direction from George Sidney. The Festival is screening the only surviving dye-transfer ("3-strip") Technicolor print in the world! First time presented in WIDE SCREEN with discrete STEREO since 1953!
Special added attractions: A tribute to Ann Miller featuring rare footage of the late dancer. And a brief interview with Bella Spewack, author of the Broadway play.

Night of the Living Dead 3-D
    U.S. Premiere
    Friday September 8, Midnight
Starring Brianna Brown, Joshua DesRoches, Sid Haig
Brand new horror film will have its Polaroid projection premiere here at the World 3-D Film Expo II! Don't miss this reworking of the classic horror film, which was shot with the amazing new HD3cam!
Director Jeff Broadstreet will join the cast & crew for a Q & A preceding the screening

    The Stewardesses
    Saturday September 9, Midnight
Starring Christina Hart, Michael Garrett, William Basil
The quintessential skin flick of the 1970s makes a brand new appearance, in a fully restored (picture AND sound) version, with all the missing footage now put back! You've never seen “The Stewardesses” until you've seen this new restored version! Rated "X". Sorry, no one under 18 years of age will be admitted. ID required.
Actors Christina Hart and William Basil, Director Allan Silliphant and Producer/Cinematographer Chris Condon will attend the screening.

Visit www.3dfilmfest.com for the complete film line-up

The festival is coming up soon. If you live in So. Cal. or are flying in for the show, it's going to be truly a fantastic 3-D event. Many of these movies have not been seen in true 3-D since the 1950's. Some have NEVER been projected in 3-D and you can be darn sure that most will never be shown again in our lifetime. DO NOT MISS THIS!!!!!!!!

At Steve Hoffman's request, I'm reposting this message I sent to him this morning:

    Hi Steve,
Good interview about the 3-D Festival on KPCC 89.3 this morning. You can Google it at KPCC.org and go to the "Offramp" program page.

    World 3-D Film Expo
Jeff Joseph talks about The Golden Age of 3-D films. Joseph runs a company called SabuCat, which maintains a huge library of movie trailers. He's also been collecting and preserving prints of 3-D movies, like House of Wax, Dial M For Murder and Robot Monster. The second World 3-D Film Expo, which starts Friday at the Egyptian Theatre, runs for ten days, features 35 feature films, and is guaranteed to lose money. :^)

I'm here, dudes. I'll be at every show. It's been very cool, so far. I've met Joe Dante and Sybil Danning, as well as Bob Furmanek. Ron has been there as well, though I haven't had a chance to talk to him. I'll post some pics when I get back.

I really wanted to go to this, just couldn't juggle everything right.:shake:
Do you think San Francisco will have one, or is there going to be one next year in LA?

I doubt L.A. will have one again anytime soon. It was three years since the last one, and from what I've seen attendance has been down this year.

I went to the first Expo a few years ago, and ended up talking to Joe Dante at about 1am one evening about the merits of different 3-D film rigs (without me realizing who he was). I thought I was talking to some Hollywood cinematographer. Later on my buddy asks me, "What were you talking to Joe Dante about?". I nearly had a stroke when I found out who he was...

I saw lots of other celebrities there as well including Leonard Maltin, Tim Burton, and John Landis.

That's cool, he seemed very nice to me, but he was in a hurry to grab a seat, so we didn't actually get to chat much. I'm hoping to see Steve tomorrow for KISS ME KATE, which is playing in discrete stereo as well as 3-D. Leonard Maltin sat behind me last night, and everyone at these showing has been very friendly, and far more knowledgeable than I. It's good to know that some people working in film have such a deep love and knowledge of this art form.

I went Friday and Saturday, saw Kiss Me Kate and Dial M for Murder both considered the crown jewels of the festival (besides House of Wax).

But I didn't see Steve or any other famous people.:)

The guys that made it all possible, from the left:

Bob Furmanek, Dan Symmes and Jeff Joseph (the red eye reduction flash caught Jeff off guard, though he did look kinda like this by the end of the festival). Unfortunately, I don't know the fellow on the right.

The sign out front and the banner for the festival. People pics can be seen at www.3dfilmfest.com. I should have taken more of the folks there, but most of the time was spent chatting and watching movies. I did manage to meet Steve briefly on Saturday, but missed him on Sunday, so didn't get a pic.

That would be me, Mike Schlesinger, of Sony Pictures, who provided many of the fine Columbia and UA titles for the fest. But don't feel bad--sometimes I don't even know myself! :shake:
