Do you binge listen to just one artist at one sitting?

Rarely, but once in a while I’ll do that with an an artist I really cherish.

A couple of years ago, I read something online about Nick Drake and remembered this was an artist I’d been meaning to check out. Found him on Tidal and listened to the first album, was blown away and then played the next 2 in succession. Ordered my own copies before retiring for the night, and still marvel that it took me so long to discover his brilliance.

I used to, when I was younger.

These days I might do a 90-minute binge on an artist, but it's rarely longer than that.

Occasionally, on a long car journey, I might put the complete works of Half Man Half Biscuit on shuffle. Less often, I’ll do the same with my (incomplete) Magnetic Fields or Belle & Sebastian collections. If I’m going to binge, I’m going to binge on midtempo Indie with a dash of humour and pathos for seasoning. Much as I love David Bowie or the Beach Boys, I need to consume them in bite-sized portions.

Not very often, but when I do it's an artist with about 6-7 albums that I haven't listened to in a very long time.

Obsessively, before I could listen to the new Friends and 20/20 releases I had to go back and listen to the Sunshine Tomorrow Sessions first... to establish context...

Just yesterday I spent the day listening to 5.1 SACDs and DVD-As, kicking it all off with three albums from Elton John (Madman Across The Water, Tumbleweed Connection and Honky Chateau).

Hardly ever when I’m doing proper listening. But when I’m on the computer, and I’m doing the music as background thing, I go artist catalogue.

I mostly binge probably 75% of the time. The other 25% I hop around but it's normally different tracks or fav tracks off an album. When I binge I usually never skip a track or listen to less than a side.

Yes, especially when it's an artist I'm not all that familiar with.

Right now I'm working my way through all of Todd Rundgren's albums. :D

Sometimes. Right now I'm going alphabetically through the Zappa catalog and reading Charles Ulrich's book.

IIRC, I listened to all the Grateful Dead albums over the course of the day.

Most of the time, yes, I pick an artist and then select a playlist of a couple of albums from a certain era, wich I play in order. Also I have the playlist on repeat, most of the time I switch to another playlist after a couple of days.

Never, I like to mix it up. I only play albums, not singles. So it's one album by one artist then I put someone else on.

Not all the time, but it’s usually the Beatles when I do.

    I do this a lot.

Tell me if this is a weird thing -- When I "binge listen," it should be consecutive albums in chronological order (by release date). I may not start with the earliest album or end with the most recent, but it should be some continuous slice of their discography. I just enjoy the progression.

Having both the US and the British versions of their albums gives me two paths through the Beatles.

Often. I wear headphones on my job and I usually just listen to one artist straight through.

  24. Frequently. I’m binging on BuzzG right now. I’ll probably listen to all 4 albums I have before I go to something else. In the mean time I’ll be translating Japanese song titles into English and perhaps seeking English lyrics to songs I particularly like.
