I wanted to like Game Night. I'm a fan of the major players in that. But Rachel McAdams and Jason Bateman had zero chemistry. None. As a result, a major film sin was committed. I didn't care.

After a bad work day, there can be a need for a few beers and a "stupid" movie. Dude, where's my car? is a good example. Haven't watched one lately, because hockey works too.

Stupid humor, no. Clever humor, yes.

Not sure what there is to defend, but I remember laughing so hard I cried. I just saw it as an extreme extension of the Three Stooges, who I love. I knew what it was going in and had no expectations that I was going to be witnessing Academy Award winning film making.

Wow, I never heard that before. My father also died of cancer and that'll probably really get to me from now on when I see it. (I happened to see that movie in a theater for the first time this year, and that scene already gets to me.)

I can understand that, but with all of the "stupid humor" there are quite a few really great scenes in it. The one with Barbara Billingsley speaking jive and the one with the kid and Kareem in the cockpit of the airplane come to mind. Then there's the whole running gag of Lloyd Bridges and his "I guess I picked a bad day to....." which I still use to this day.

Disagree! Well, about the zero chemistry part - I can't disagree that you didn't care! :D

Yeah, it's not consistent "stupid humor", and well-done "stupid humor" is actually pretty smart.

I don't view "stupid humor" as an automatic insult. As I noted, I never liked "Airplane!" but that's not an indictment on "stupid humor" entirely...

Chris DeVoe RIP Vickie Mapes Williams (aka Equipoise)

Every actor has to draw upon their own life, and their own pain, in order to be able to portray it movingly in a film. I wasn't surprised at all when I read that, and I've always wanted to meet Mandy Patinkin to tell him just how much that scene means to me, how he perfectly captured the anguish and rage of a son deprived of his father.

Most of the humor in the film Top Secret is pretty stupid... and wonderful.

YES!!! Just telling my wife about that movie a couple of weeks ago as she wasn't familiar with it. Haven't seen it in years.

I think the best thing about Airplane is that they took some veteran dramatic actors and had them do comedy for the first time.

Yeah, that was an inspired move - and one that started a trend.

I think "Airplane!" was an important, influential movie - it just never made me laugh!

Honestly, the only ZAZ movie I ever liked was "Ruthless People" - but I love that one!

  16. Grant

Grant Life is a rock, but the radio rolled me!

Indeed I do! The Princess Bride, Airplane, National Lampoon's Vacation, Spaceballs, The Jerk, Sixteen Candles...I love all that stuff! never got into Monty Python, through.

I'd also add the 'Rogan/Goldberg' team to the '21st Century stupid-movie' list, as well.

None of the films mentioned in the first post are stupid humor in my opinion. I actually consider those clever films for clever people.

My favorite comedy is probably Napoleon Dynamite.

But I find most of its humor clever, rather than stupid.

Absolutely. Stupid can be funny. Who wants all their movies to fall under the same umbrella?
