But Americans still enjoy the blues and country music.

  2. A hauntingly lovely song by Indonesian vocaloid producer, Windshield. Soundscape:

"Pulang" (Go Home) featuring the voice of Megurine Luka.

  3. The country music that most Americans listen to is far from traditional.

  6. I have this album. It's titled To the So Called the Guilties because the members of Koes Bersaudara were imprisoned for a time by the Sukarno regime for the crime of playing "Beatles music".

Not an Indonesian band, but a great American band who went to Indonesia to study gamelan and incorporated it heavily into their music is Macha. Wonder how well known they are in Indonesia...

I have a couple of CDs by Indonesian bands, which I found in UK charity shops.

    Padi - Sesuatu Yang Tertunda

    Dewa - Bintang Lima

The music on both albums is good to listen to, none of the tracks sticks in my mind more than any other on the two CDs. Very pleased to have them both in my collection.

In terms of the cultural music of a particular region or nation I do not. What I have been recently interested in is various cultural influences from around the world on Jazz. Nothing from Indonesia for me but South Africa, the Middle East, Israel, UK, Scandinavia and others have caught my ear...

The only jazz we know is pop music in disguise. Pathetic.

I think the only Indonesian artist I know is Anggun, who is popular in France, though she released a few English-language albums here in the late 1990's and early 2000's.

  17. Something I came across while going through my backlog of saved YouTube videos. This isn’t my usual sort of music, being a soft acoustic pop ballad, but it’s a decent song that’s IMHO really enhanced by its video. I saw this a lot on Indonesian MTV about 15 years ago or so.

I used to listen to Indonesian pop when the RRI (Radio Republik Indonesia) stations were using shortwave. That came to an end about 15 years ago.

One of my fave fusion/prog guitarists. Dewa Budjana. Here playing with Jordan Rudess (Keyboards), Marco Minnemann (drums), Mohini Dey (Bass, Konokol).

This is my kind of music!

No, but I like classical gamelan music, especially Gong Kebyar. I’ve performed gamelan music on and off for about 50 years and have composed and recorded a few pieces myself. I played in Gamelan Son of Lion and I’ve toured Java and Bali.

Budjana is great, a big fan of John McLaughlin, and a friend of John Frusciante.

Interestingly, he plays in a pop rock group for a living.

We already talked about it on someone else's thread. My father is a sundanese. ;)
In Indonesia, only "villagers" like traditional music.
