I’m curious if people here still mostly listen to the same artists that they did when they were teenagers or not.

I still listen to a lot of the same, but looking at my collection I believe I still fall into the “No” camp.

No. Some certainly. And other similar to, quite a bit. But I didn't really become a jazz fan til I was in college. If we make that 40 years ago while I was in my mid-20s, then the answer is yes.

Not really. I went from Van Halen and Queen in high school to Bob Dylan in college to Miles and Coltrane after college. Now in my 50s I’ve stayed with jazz. But I still listen to my first loves occasionally.

I listen to my teenage heroes occasionally, and some more regularly than others, but I've moved on quite a bit since then, exploring all kinds of music.

    No.

In 2015 I switched over to Frank Sinatra 95% of the time. Marvelous!

Since the question says "mostly" my answer is "no".

But I still listen to many of those things. Imo, music is like friends.

You don't necessarily have to get rid of an old friend in order to make new ones.

    I know I don't.

I created a thread a few weeks ago about me almost complete lack of nostalgia connected to music.

So, while there certainly some artists I still listen to that I listened to while in high school (YES, King Crimson, Genesis, PFM, Banco, etc), I'm also in constant search for new artists.

Those bands that I still listen to from my high school days, still hold up for me based purely on their very high level of musicianship, complexity, creativity.

And lucky for me, there is an almost endless supply of great prog, fusion, contemporary classical artists to be discovered.

High School was about a decade ago for me. Yes, I still listen to a fair amount of metal and punk rock as I did then. Not as much often since I listen to jazz and electronic music a little more now, but I never lose touch of music that inspired me.

Almost never. I mean, that was a long, long time ago, and I'm not at all close to the same person I was as 13, 14, 15, 16, etc., Honestly, if I was at 57, I think there would be something wrong. So, unsurprisingly, I don't listen to a lot of the same music that I did then. Plus, I'm largely interested in new experiences and that means new music and new to me music, which always gives me more of a thrill than going back to old familiar music. I don't even mostly listen to the same kind of music I listen to back then, a lot of which was rock and nowadays I almost never listen to rock music.

Sometimes. I started collecting Beatles, Stones, Queen, Coldplay and Green Day albums when I was in high school. I explored other artists' works since then...

Yes, I listen to a lot of the same artists, but I listen to even more artists that I wasn't aware of back then or never got into back then or didn't exist back then.

I guess if I think an artist is great, I never really stop listening to them. But I always find music to add to them, so it's sort of a yes and a no.

Have to go with no. On occasion I'll still listen to something from those years, but my pallet has, and continues to expand, since then.

A big fat NO. I went to high school in the 1970s. I hated 1970s music then and like it even less now. Thankfully, the 1980s underground and alternative save me from that drudge.

To be honest, I do listen to a couple things from 1970 to 1973. But very little.

No. A lot of the stuff that I listened to in high school reminds me of high school, and why would I want to do that to myself?

I still listen to albums released in high school. But I've been out of high school for 47 years hence a lot of music has been cut since then including by artists I was listening to in high school. Moreover if you lived in a rural area the radio medium a lot of the time was AM radio and 45s were still popular then. I grew up in a rural area but was fortunate enough to live not too far from a big college which gave opportunity to some great FM radio. Remember when DJs could entertain you with deep album cuts?

No. The stuff I listened to in high school came from the single horrible local radio station in the small town I spent my teenage years in. I knew better music existed because I'd heard it on the radio in the larger city I used to live in when I was a kid. I just needed to do a lot more searching. Some of the most meaningful music of my life I've only heard in the last 5 years or so.
