Johnny Mathis - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me / The Most Beautiful Girl I got it because I just wanted a 45 and there were very few to choose from in that store. Singles were rarities in many places overseas.
I'm not sure if I bought this (at age 11) or my older sister got it and then gave it to me... Elvis Presley: "Don't" b/w "I Beg Of You", 1958. Have to say, after all these years, "I Beg Of You" is still my favorite Elvis song.
1976, age 11, my very first 45 bought with my ‘hard-earned’ allowance savings was The Price of Love, by Bryan Ferry. Great song, but what also helped it was a 4-track e.p. Good value for money!
Not exactly singles, but there was the AMIGA QUARTETT series in the GDR, containing four (hence the name) tracks on a 45 rpm 7'' disc. I had some of them, the first may have been this one by a-ha.
This, a book of Syd Barrett lyrics with 7" EP. Not official release, but not illegal either, thanks to Italy´s copyright laws.
Sadly, it was Ebony & Ivory when I was 4. I really hate that song now. It was not my first single, but the first I bought myself. My sister bought Olivia's "Make A Move On Me" at the same time. A far better song that I still like!
I clearly remember buying my first 45's. I bought two at once, "Signs" by The Five Man Electrical Band, and "Age of Aquarius/Let the Sun Shine In" by The Fifth Dimension. I still have them!
I think it was a Smith & Wesson. I was 8 years old. My mom thought that may be too much gun for an 8 year old.
Don’t judge me - “Ernie (The Fastest Milkman in The West)”. I was 14 and Benny Hill was the funniest man on Earth! I have it framed on my wall!
Why, “sadly”? E and O is an excellent song (and I don’t throw out 80’s McCartney compliments all that easily).
I thought I'd already posted in this thread, so I made a lil' joke post above, but after reading the thread I see the photo I posted is gone, and I didn't post the title of the 45. Make sure you title your images, kids, because the hot link police will make the photos disappear. My first 45 I bought was "Rocket Man". I was 10.
Paperback writer/Rain, when it was new with $ from my paper route, Ashland Daily Tidings, I was 11. Wore it out.
My older brother bought the first 45 that I can recall in our household... for his 12-year-old (or thereabouts) birthday party: I still have the 45 and pic sleeve (just like the one pictured above, but that photo is one I got on the interwebs)
