I’m sure a lot of bands from the 70s wished they could’ve done as well as Heart in the 80s.

They have a couple of good songs. That’s all. They’re nothing special.

Their cred did get hit, and no they did not recover. But who cares - the bank account balance is good shape.

I can certainly understand your point of view, comparing the sound of the band in the 70's vs the 80's.
Wasn't there a live version of them doing a Led Zeppelin song ?
Can't imagine the 80's version of the band covering that.
Got to remember, they were in the thick of the MTV movement.

I personally find just about every Heart album I have heard (haven't heard some of the newer ones) to be pretty inconsistent, but Dreamboat Annie is spectacular from start to finish. Every song is a winner.

As for the 80's, I grew up on those songs, so I will always like them. I still love These Dreams, Nothing at All and There's the Girl like crazy.

Yeah, what would we do without you to remind us that the rock world stopped rotating on its axis after 1978?

Wander dazed and confused through a maze of genres & subgenres of course. Anti-acid-folk, Neu-boy-metal, horrorcore, glitch hop, etc.

I like the self titled album, Bad Animals, and Brigade along with all the other Heart albums.
Heart would be playing clubs in the mid-80s if not for what Capitol did. And they probably had a better mid 80s than Bob Dylan and Paul McCartney for crying out loud.

Their popularity rocketed throughout North America. Selling out concert venues in Europe and Japan.

The thing with 'All I wanna do' is that it is their biggest ever hit. It was massive.

Not sure it was bigger than Alone or These Dreams, but it was certainly huge. I remember many being surprised at the time at the subject matter.

The first edition of Heart was a band. Not just hired hands. Leese and Fisher are important to the songs and sound. Once that dynamic was gone it's just another pop band.

Perhaps, but still a highly successful pop band. 7 top 10 hits on the US pop charts in a 6-year stretch (1985-1990) is pretty impressive.

Heart never recovered artistically from the departure of Roger. However
Bebe le Strange was a fun album. I saw them on that tour several times
    And they were fantastic!
IMO, Little Queen and Dog and Butterfly are equally as good as the first LP.
Love Alive and Mistral Wind are simply brilliant.
These 2 albums are high on my wishlist of SH remastered.

I believe they recovered by thinking about all the times in the '80s that they laughed all the way to the bank.

Dreamboat Annie was the beginning and end for me with Heart. Nice little album though.

I agree with what Oatsdad said earlier in this thread about many (if not most) 60s/70s bands having a tough time in the 80s. Heart was no exception to this and I just don't see how they could have kept going without making changes. They were in a state of decline already, what should they have done , withered away?

While I prefer their 70s output, especially Dreamboat Annie, I am not as bothered as some of you by their 80s music.
