I'm really interested in Dolly's country period, before her pop cross-over success, and of course, those duets.

My favourite period is 1977 to the early 90s. The last album I bought was Slow Dancing With The Moon.

Dolly's finest pop single ever. Still play it a lot today and it's an awesome performance, and superb production. And also being a Mann and Weil song does not hurt.

I first became of Dolly when Jolene was a hit. The next I heard of her was Here You Come Again. I was a member of Columbia House and bought her New Harvest...First Gathering lp from them anticipating getting her new hit. When my package arrived, I was dismayed to see that Here You Come Again was nowhere to be found. Then I played the record and was immediately blown away by the opener, Light Of A Clear Blue Morning. I've loved Dolly ever since and can appreciate all aspects of her career. Tremendous songwriter and singer and seemingly wonderful person as well.

I was about 5 years old when this was on the radio at home. It ingrained in me at an early age an appreciation for fine song craft. My young ears always innocently misheard Dolly enunciation of the lyrics as “He’ll come again...”

Given Ms. Parton's age (30-ish) and, uh, looks at that time, I have no doubt that he did!!!

I’m surprised she doesn’t have more vinyl in print. I looked for a new Greatest Hits at Christmas for my wife and there wasn’t one.

Dolly posted on FB yesterday that Heartbreaker is 40 years old, y'all.

Here You Come Again & Heartbreaker are her best pop albums in my opinion.

Her bluegrass albums "The Grass is Blue" & "Little Sparrow" are masterpieces. Well worth searching out. I also liked "Hungry Again" and "Halos and Horns".

But last night on Ozzy and Jack's World Detour, I heard Kelly Osbourne singing it ("9 to 5") karaoke-style with a male Dolly Parton impersonator.

It's not a subsidiary of the pop chart, Sorry. It is a specialist genre of music which is not always Pop friendly crossovers. Regional music. And it's fans are far more loyal for many years in that era than any pop music fans.

  14. I will now become the most hated person in the room and say I like this version. No, I did not say this is a better version. I'm just saying I think it is a good version. The "B-side" of the single "Accidentally Kelly Street" by Australian band Frente! recorded in 1992.

Yes, it's the same with the r&b chart. Sure, there is some overlap due to crossover hits, but there are plenty of tracks that were big r&b hits that either didn't chart at all on the pop chart or that charted much, much lower on that chart. And, naturally, the reverse is true in that some pop hits cross over to the other, more genre specific charts but there are plenty of pop hits that don't register at all on either the country or r&b charts.

Earlier in this thread I posted Barry Mann's original demo for this song, but here is his great later cover of the song from around 1999. I love Barry's older voice, as it fits this song well, plus he keeps that same fun bouncy tempo of Dolly's hit version ...

I neglected to mention earlier that I LOVE Dolly - big hair, big image, big ambition; even bigger talent and heart. Favorite Dolly quotation, "I don't mind when they call me a dumb blonde 'cause I know I'm not dumb and I know I ain't blonde either".
