I never knew that existed either.
Sounds more Laura Branigan-ish than Benatar to me.

    It's tied in with a 60+ minute film ......
    Heartbeat (Video 1987) - IMDb
Paul Shaffer, Lori Singer, David Carradine, Luis Guzmán .....
and a cameo by Willie Nelson.

but there aren't cast credits for the music video .....
Who is the mystery girl ?

Great song! I still dig it out for a listen every now and then.

His duet with Barbra Streisand (Till I Loved You) is also enjoyable, although more traditionally pop vocal/AC.

I think Bruce Willis' take on "Respect Yourself" outshines Don.

No :D Bruce Willis couldn't sing. Don Johnson had a professional-quality voice. People don't pay enough attention to male vocal quality.

The Heartbeat album is very good. He’s a great singer.

It's certainly better than Party All The Time by Eddie Murphy! Didn't Bruce Willis also release a record around the time of Moonlighting?

    Edit: answered above. Respect Yourself.

He also released a version of Under The Boardwalk around '87, which had spoken intro where a guy with a very deep voice intones, "Hey Bruno, you comin' down to the boardwalk with us?"

Didn't they have a dalliance? Barbra liked her guys young, fit and handsome then. A few years later, she and Andre Agassi were making the beast with two backs.

Deeezil says the ‘Heartbeat’ video is known as the worst music vid ever made. I’ve seen much worse.

    Embarrassing then, and cringeworthy now.

Not really the topic of the thread, but Till I Loved You is a real trudge of an album. Packed with tuneless meandering ballads and featuring 3 turgid efforts from the dreaded Alan and Marilyn Bergman!

I remember the opening song being good and the title track is amongst the best cuts, but it’s not an album I visit often.

Babs looks great on the cover though!

Funny you say that because my buddy sent me the Dweezil video and I said the exact same thing in reply to him. We both agreed that Bowie/Jagger was far worse and then he found and sent me that same hilarious "silent" version. I think we also thought Squier's "Rock Me Tonight" was worse as well.

Hahaha, oh my god, that was Melvin Franklin of the legendary Temptations!*

Also, if we're not limiting it to "pop rock" (hello Eddie Murphy) then I guess
it doesn't have to be a male solo actor who took a turn at music.

    Hello the Blues Brothers.

You may now close the thread.

Haha - as I was reading your response, my internal dialogue was "...b-b-but The Places You Find Love is a great song!" and then I realized I couldn't name any of the other tracks off the top of my head, so I'd say we're probably in agreement... :D I also wish that awful synthesizer flourish didn't open Till I Loved You and appear throughout the album - it's the most dated part of the production, but I suppose we all thought it was the height of contemporary music at the time.

Back to DJ, I never bought his album and I don't think I've ever heard any of his material other than Heartbeat and Till I Loved You - to my recollection he never managed a second solo hit. Worth checking out?

They did indeed - they were together most of 1988, but they'd split by the time Till I Loved You was having its chart success. Babs even made a literal blink-and-you'll-miss-it appearance on Miami Vice, and she sang backing vocals on a DJ track even after they had split.

Don Johnson's albums were excellent in my opinion. Wish he would have kept doing music, too. Although given that he was known as an actor primarily, he was pigeonholed. That unfortunately happens to a lot of talented people.
