When I was 9 or 10, in '74, 75, I was up late one night by myself watching a 60's music retrospective on t.v. At one point this real gentle guy is sitting cross legged on stage, alone with an acoustic guitar and a garland around his neck, singing in the most gentle voice "Jennifer, Juniper.....", and I'm like " Holy F " ! For the next few years I would occasionally ask my older sister about the guy, and she would remind me. Now I have a fantastic collection of memorabilia, that I began posting on a couple of different threads, but decided a true and dedicated Donovan memorabilia thread was in order. I plan on posting pictures of my collection in a loosely chronological kind of order, and hope that other fans will contribute pictures and thought as well.
Me, my fave Donovan track is ' Riki Tiki Tavi ' " When I was a young man I was led to believe there were organizations for killing my snakes for me..."
In the early '90s I liked Donovan OK, but kinda had him pegged as a hippie dippy flower power relic, y'know what I mean? At a thrift store, for 75 cents I bought the box set of "From a Flower To a Garden," and brought it home and put on the pile of records I hadn't yet listened to. There it sat for quite a few months, until one sunny day I decided to give it a cleaning and a spin. I was instantly enchanted by the music, and uplifted by its lyrical optimism and positiveness. That afternoon, I totally re-evaluated Donovan.
most of all of my items are in plastic and mounted in archival scrapbooks, so there are gleams and sometimes a dullness
