I loved watching her TV series when it was released in a complete DVD box a few years back. It was just funny to see the changes made, not only from season-to-season, but some mid-season! She lives on a farm with her father and kids; all of a sudden they have a housekeeper -- all of a sudden she's gone! She's moving to San Francisco with the kids -- then the kids disappear! Kaye Ballard is her landlady -- and then she's gone! She has a boyfriend -- then she's single -- then she has a different boyfriend. It really was enough to make your head spin!

You can read the show synopsis and list of characters on Wikipedia:

Damn she was a force. Absolute pro. What she is doing here (performing flawlessly live in the studio with a big orchestra on the clock) is sooooooo hard.

I never met her either, but I was once in the radio studio with Philly DJ Joe Niagara while he was speaking with her on the telephone. Those two were very good friends.

Doris Day had lots of Hollywood rock & roll connections....from Kim Fowley (worked for her husband
early on) to The Beach Boys (her son worked with Bruce Johnson etc.) and even Charlie Manson (the Cielo Drive
murders were originally intended as a retaliation against Terry as well). Just remembered that she was a 'Hitchcock Blonde'
too. Interesting career and family ties there.

1980s Contemporary Christian Music star Margaret Becker is a huge fan of this album (and her music in general) and posted this album displayed on her vintage console:

The Pajama Game is one of the great film musicals ever as well.

IMO Duets is one of the greatest records ever made in any genre. Two masters of their craft at the absolute peak of their abilities.

    One of my favorite singers.
My two favorite albums by her are Day By Day and Day By Night. Wonderful intimate vocals and arrangements.

Sounds like the "what would have been" scenarii of Elvis viz his film career (i.e. consideration for what became the Kris Kristofferson role in the 1976 Barbra Streisand version of A Star Is Born).

But also, in terms of her film roles in the last years of making them, plus reading on how third hubby Marty Melcher had screwed her royally (to the point where, upon his death, she had to commit to her 1968-73 TV series), he sounded to me like equal parts "Colonel" Tom Parker and Morris Levy.

I just posted the same thing elsewhere! Somehow she made it work, even under the circumstances that led to the show in the first place.

There was another, too: Jan & Arnie (the latter while Dean was elsewhere), whose "Jennie Lee" was released on the Arwin label (which her hubby had run).

My blog post on the passing of Doris Day - a star totally adored by the public and yet, I think, criminally under-rated:
