I'd have to concur, when I made my points my intent was to be wholly serious.

RIP Doris a star of the golden age.

Great clear quality to her voice. She is on comp albums i have with june christy and peggy lee. All did the singer in a big band show.

Her tv show was kind of fun for who was on it and the era.

Love her photos with her dog. Same kind of dog as me. Her animal sanctury ranch type place is so cool just to emphisise early on the value of treating animals well.

    A true icon rip doris

As well known as Doris was, I still think she was vastly underrated as a singer and movie star. What a voice and what charm. So endearing. RIP Doris.

  5. Good day!

In fact, 35,469 days that Doris chalked up! That's a lot of good days. I'm sure some of them were not-so-good ones, too, but a lot, nonetheless.

To cross the finish line at age 97 should be a joy. Hell, I've lived 16,617 days and I have no idea what I'm going to do with the remaining 18,852 days, or if I can can even reach them!

If it's up to me, I'll be happy with another 10,000 and call it a day. :)

She was kind of a precursor to the late Beatles, wasn't she? She was never comfortable performing live but man could she bring the music in a studio ...

    Many other cool R&R connections:
-Terry producing The Byrds, Paul Revere & The Raiders, The Rising Sons (Taj Mahal/Ry Cooder) and so on...
-P.F. Sloan's second, pre-fame release in the early 60s was on husband Marty Melcher's 'Mart' label.
-And don't forget PJ Proby's ultra-cool U.K. cover version of "Que Sera Sera".

I am not by any means an expert in such matters, but it seems to me that Doris Day had a rather unique voice. As best I can describe it there seemed to be no tension between control and expressiveness. She also had it covered regarding phrasing, rhythm, range, power and warmth.

Doris was one of the greats. I don’t think you’ll find anyone to dispute that. 97 is great going. I believe there was a new picture of her published on her birthday this April. She was as lovely as ever.

My mum didn’t like that many female singers, but she always loved and admired Doris, whom she used to keep a scrapbook on when she was a girl! “They just don’t make singers like Doris Day anymore”, she’d say. She was right.

I think people got so fixated on her movie performances ... my favorite was "The Thrill of it All" with James Garner, it was a little more offbeat than the others ... they forgot about her singing except in that context. IMO she's underappreciated if not downright underrated in a lot of quarters. It's like Karen Carpenter ... she just grabs your ears from the opening lyric.

Someone needs to turn this into a comic panel in memoriam of Doris. It'd be a beautiful image, all the animals she's helped throughout her life welcoming her to eternal life.

I admired her for her animal activism, Doris Day Animal Foundation.
One of the things she probably would have liked to be remembered for.

One branch of my ancestry had the last name "Day." When I was a kid, I used to think that we must be related to Doris Day because of that. I was very disappointed when I learned that her last name was really Kappelhoff. I still loved her, though.

While I've always been a fan of her movies (The Man Who Knew Too Much is one of my very favorite movies of all time), my real love for Doris Day was for her music. She left us such a tremendous legacy of recorded music.
