Don't laugh but I have a zero dust and I suspect another item is the same stuff:

Have you ever got one of those gel sticky hands attached to a plastic handle? And you can like fling it on a table and grab a dollar bill or small things? You can get them in cheap coin op toy dispensers. Same stuff I'll bet ya!

I would be careful of blu-tack, as I've read reports that some have found that the adhesive properties have removed diamonds from cantilevers.

Thanks, but I'd rather not know about any oily residue that is on the Pamela Anderson poster you have had since 1998. :)

Are these the "sticky hands" you are referring to? They were recommended in the SNA forum in a similar topic as a stylus cleaning equivalent of Zerodust or Moongel. $2 in our Kmarts, in the "party goods" section (in a packet that looks nothing like the photo below).

Whatever you decide to use, the important thing is that cleaning your stylus is absolutely essential.

Here are some cool photos from a previous thread:

These are great! You can throw them at your stylus and clean it without ever having to leave the comfort of your easy chair!

I don't think there is anything magic about the Onzow/Oznow (sorry, i can't get my head around the spelling). I bought one when it came out, and bought another more recently b/c it seemed to have dried out a bit (no, I didn't leave it open and exposed).
Frankly, I don't think it does a better job than a stylus brush. If I need to clean the stylus more intensively, I will use Magic Eraser, but you have to be careful.
A cheap jeweler's loupe is a good investment. 10X won't let you see at a micro level but is about as powerful as you can manage with a handheld. I have a 20X which I have figure out how to use--tricky, since the focal point is so small.
I stay away from liquids at this point, though i used the Lyra stuff when i ran Lyra cartridges.
I think clean records and a clean stylus not only maintain a high level of playback, but prolong the life of the stylus (as well as the records).
I think Peter at Soundsmith recommends Blutack, doesn't he? (or some other easy to get cheaper alternative to the audiophile goop).

With enough practice and sticky hands, you really don't have to get up for anything ;-)

I use the Winyl One-Touch with good results. The polymer looks like a jelly glass and can be washed for dirt removal.

  22. And those sticky spyders and octopus that were sold in the 1980's one through to a window glass, they got stick to the glass and then slowly went down. Once they got dirty they were wahshed under the tap and they were like new and sticky again.
That's the first thing I thought when I receiced my Onzow.

Some people have found that Blu-tack's adhesive qualities are strong, and there are reports of it removing the diamond tip from the cantilever. Obviously, this won't occur every time Blu-tack is used, however, there is a risk for diamonds that are not very securely attached. For that reason, the less-adhesive jels discussed are a safer option.

The "good thing" if using the whatever-TAK (Blue, Fun, Blustik,...) is you don't need to clean the record with WD-40. The diamond from the cantilever if it's not removed, is oiled enough.
