This weekend I picked up on Dunhill vinyl "Ray Charles & Betty Carter" and "Greatest Country Western Hits". They used the clear "futuristic" vinly (like the Bowie Rykodisc box) and I thought it was a bitch to clean (not easy to spot dust and other nasties). I enjoyed the albums (especially Betty's performances) but I felt the "re-balancing" wasn't as exciting as I remembered these songs to sound. I'm not saying they didn't sound great but just different and maybe a little too safe. I'm curious to hear the later work Steve did on these 2 albums (DCC tube jobies). I think he said that he used the original mixes? I just felt that on most of the material, it didn't have Steve's usual "breath of life"...

I also saw several of Steve's Chess reissues on the "green label" (I think that's the name), that say in the text they were pressed in Italy. How's the quality of these compared to the US MCA pressings?
