Repeated listens yesterday, and this album is solid! Since All You Need Is Now, they have been putting out gold. They are fighters. I respect this band.
This album is much better than Paper Gods. I'm just waiting for the various vinyl variants and CD to come in, but I have it digitally until then.
-- Just drove to a Barnes and Noble in Northern Virginia which had a copy of the Deluxe. They couldn't find it, but eventually did. They didn't even take it out of the boxes yet. Loving the extra tracks. They make this cd even more adventurous and cool than the regular version. Velvet Newton into Beautiful Lies is a great transition. If only their contemporaries would be so daring into a 40 year career!
Nick said in an interview recently that Moroder is one of his heroes so that wasn't going to happen. Looking at the production credits is interesting. All by Errol Aiken except middle threesome Tracks 7-9 that are those two plus one by somebody named Joshua Blair. Who is he and what's the story on "Wing"? Did they try it with Aiken and he couldn't nail it? Was it recorded before or after the main sessions with Errol?
Yes, that was where it was last night, the album next to the Funko Pops. This morning the album cover had gone.
They're supposed to be red transparent vinyl and the catalog number, 93669, matches that of the single disc transparent red, so that's not good. But the price and the track list imply 2 discs. I sent them an e-mail asking for clarification.
I believe Josh Blair is Nick Rhodes’ programmer and the band’s sound engineer. The band started on the album in late 2018 but had to cease recording by the end of 2019 due to COVID. Most of the album had been recorded by then. When they reconvened in March of this year, they wrote a couple of new songs. Erol Alkan may have not been available at the time. Mark Ronson did some writing and production work as did Giorgio Moroder.
i have listened to the album several times now. i am enjoying it for what it is. there are few songs that stand out, that have a classic duran sound. i don't like the ballads, rap songs, or songs with other groups. the rest don't really sound like older duran, more like the post notorious ones. basically, its like paper gods, but a little better so far. missing the guitar work though. i will listen with headphones, to get a better idea. (just for fun, i have made instrumentals of all the songs, and i actually like some songs better that way). i would call it average overall 3/5 later -1
Did anyone else score the lime green lp from Brooklyn Vegan? Is it correct for there to be no hype sticker?
unboxing all the formats: Duran Duran’s Future Past ‘all formats’ unboxing video – SuperDeluxeEdition later -1
I am actually enjoying this album a fair bit. Does any one know if there are plans to release a high-res version?
That video really surprised me and made me grateful I went for the DE cd format. BMG really went cheap on other formats.
A 60 minute interview with the guy who wrote Talking To Girls About Duran Duran: Duran Duran on Their Hedonistic Eighties Days and Whether They Were as Hot as Journey
I received my copy with signed art print. I’m not convinced the signatures have been anywhere near The band. Somebody has written SLB in capitals with a marker. The other signatures could have been done by anybody.
Just noticed that the Spotify version I've been listening while my vinyl is en route has two songs more. One of which is "Hammerhead". I suspect the other is "Nothing Less". Which brings the album down to +/- 44 minutes. I like that! Less is more..... JOY!
Fourth stream and "Future Past" finally klicked for me. "More Joy!".. foking hell.... why am I hearing the Casio rhythm of Trios "Da Da Da" hidden in there? Is this a coincidence? It's hilarious! And I totally can't unhear it...
Tsk-tsk! What were they thinking? Nothing Less is my absolute favorite track on the album/CD version.
Funny. The only track where I would have appreciated a "featuring" is "All Of You". Who's that amazing Richard Fairbrass - Right Said Fred - voice?!
It’s really special, isn’t it? It might just be my favourite song of theirs since Ordinary World and Come Undone. I love how Simon sings, the female vocals (which I think are his daughter’s, which makes it something very rare: a guest vocal from an artist’s offspring that make you want to hear more), the atmosphere, the guitars. Everything about it. It’s the Duran Duran of So Red The Rose or the second half of Big Thing. I’ve missed them.
It's 1987 all over again with cd bonus tracks, except this time you spend less for more. Shame on BMG for not making "standard album" consistent across format, and shame on DD for signing off on this. Instead they could have used extra tracks as 12" and cd single bonus tracks like the classic years.
The deep voice???? It would have been cool - if they decide to play the game - to offer different bonustracks on different vinyl versions.
