Duran Duran - The Reflex. Apparently their biggest worldwide hit. What do you think of it?

Struggled with "Notorious" - and "Big Thing" for that matter - back in the day. Now I love one and think the other is pretty good. "Liberty" on the other hand.....

I'm guessing what was meant by return to form was D2 actually producing a consistent album rather than a new wave record.

Seven had a couple higher highs (The Seventh Stranger, Tiger Tiger, one could argue for Cracks In The Pavement) but overall, Notorious is a more consistent album.

The Reflex is OK, but not my favourite Duran Duran song.

Not even my favore DD song on the album.
That would go to New Moon.

The beginning of the video still irritates me. Great song, let down by a silly video!

Back in the day, I wrote off Duran Duran as tedious pop poseurs but then I heard an Andy Taylor solo record (Thunder) which is excellent and a few years later, heard a greatest hits record playing over the tannoy of a pub and realized that I enjoyed most of the songs.

Since then I've picked up Astronaut and The Wedding album and enjoyed them both. Need to explore more.

As far as the Reflex goes, it's a fun song without being top tier, I reckon.

Agreed, there's also the often overlooked 1986 solo John Taylor single from 9 1/2 Weeks

Aside from the singles the other song that stood out for me was "Shadows On Your Side"

Fantastic. Probably my favorite or theirs. (And they were my favorite band back in the early 80s!)

    Thunder is a fantastic album.
Life goes on , and Tremblin are the 2 highlights for me.

It's a perfect song. Well structured, very catchy, superb bassline. But then I also say that about Rio, A View To A Kill, Hungry Like The Wolf....

Duran Duran deserve more credit than they get.

In the days when you could go record shopping at Boots.

Mind you I'm sure I bought a few 7" singles at Woolies

You really should check out the debut. New romantic perfection.

    One of the deeper cuts

I like it. I think I prefer the album version (that intro is kind of unique), but I own a copy of Decade at least in part to have a decent version of the single mix.

The album isn’t as solid as the debut or Rio, with a bit of filler, and Simon sounds a bit flat (as in musically, not enthusiasm wise) at times. If they’d dropped Cracks in the Pavement and put Is There Something I Should Know on there, that would have improved matters.

W.H.A.T.? How could replacing a terrific deep cut with an overplayed single improve anything?

Well, for my money it would have got rid of the awful lyric "my head is full of chopstick" and the flattest chorus vocals this side of I Want The One I Can't Have. But I'm happy for other people to like it.

The Remix. Noticeably it’s DR11 on an album that’s otherwise DR14-16, so it looks like part of Nile’s secret sauce was a bit of compression.

Sounds good though, well worth picking Decade up for Reflex, ITSISK, Wild Boys and View to a Kill.

One notable thing about D2 is that every album they've ever done has at least one 100% brilliant track on it - sometimes a single, sometimes not. And on Seven And The Etc. it's The Seventh Stranger. What a song!

It's a great comp but is missing two key tracks - "My Own Way" and "New Moon On Monday". "Careless Memories" also could have been included but wasn't.

Love these additional reviews, have to say I agree with all of them, in fact I could have wrote them they reflect my taste so much! Are they your own scans?
