I wrote in five days too late, way after 8/1 deadline. Or so I thought. But Jamie at Noiseland was able to hook me up. I just listened to my defect free BLOOD test pressing. Ever since I had a cassette copy, this has been one of my fave records. The CD from the gray market was an improvement.....but now, legitimacy! It's a great time to be alive!
Was it ever disclosed what source they used for this RSD release? Was it actually from the original tapes?
Jamie went above and beyond. Great customer service. Wish every label took care of issues this quickly and easily.
I gave up on this record after the initial pressing quality reports. Now, I open this thread find out that replacement copies had been made available and were perfect, but the replacement program ended a few weeks ago. Oh well, can’t have everything, I suppose.
An update for those who followed the early part of the thread where the BOTT MFSL One-Step was recommended. The One-Step has been released and has very positive reviews on the following threads - below are the threads starting on the page with the actual BOTT One-Step reviews. Mobile Fidelity Ultradisc One Step of SANTANA, BILL EVANS TRIO, etc.* Bob Dylan - Blood on the Tracks (Mofi Ultradisc One-Step 45rpm 2LP vinyl)
I just got an email from Plaid Room saying this is available again. Weird! Bob Dylan Blood On The Tracks - Original New York Test Pressing Edit: well that was quick. They showed 3 available for a minute and now they’re gone again. I wonder if they really got a few copies or if it was a mistake
After getting and listening to the MFSL one step of the original release, the New York test pressing sound a bit dull to me. Especially Tangled Up in Blue. Good to hear the NY version but I prefer the energy of the original release which now sounds fantastic on the MFSL One Step. The One Step will be my go-to from now on.
I wrote to Jamie asking if there were any replacement copies left. Nope, all gone. However, she put my name on a list in case they press up more copies. I suggest everyone who still has a defective copy, write in & politely ask for a replacement. Maybe they'll press up some more if people keep pestering them about it. Can't hurt, anyway.
Sorry to go off-topic a bit, but does anyone think a cd release of this is a possibility? I emailed Sony/Legacy a few weeks back but no response, to the surprise of no one.
This thread popped back up and I just saw this replacement program note for the first time. What a drag to miss out on this, my copy is bad also, but never imagined they would do a repress, so I wasn't paying attention. I think its great that they did this though...
I ended up with about 3-4 extra copies of the RSD LP because my replacements also had non-fill. Noiseland was so generous they even sent me a final replacement without me asking for one, and that one was perfect. One of my replacement LPs had a severe warp so I never dared play it. No clue if it has non-fill.
That’s ridiculous. It spoils the collector market - would anyone buy a sealed copy on the secondary market at this point, knowing that it probably contains a defective record that can’t be returned? I wonder if the major record companies understand that pressings like this will eventually lead to people losing interest in vinyl . . .
The music industry has a long history of being shortsighted. Cashing in on the vinyl boom with no forethought to cultivating a lifelong consumer love of the medium isn’t the first time and won’t be the last time they exploit something without considering the future.
As a constant vinyl LP purchaser through the bad days I now wish the boom on vinyl would fall away a bit. We then might get better QC and more titles licenced out to specialist audiophile labels. These limited RSD pressings at least should be produced with the most care. No excuses.
