I think Edie is very funny and I always love when she pops up in a movie or TV show I happen to be watching. She's one of the only really funny things in Small Wonder for example.

 

I have never, ever used the word "loved" to describe my opinion of Small Wonder.

 

I love it in a "so cheesy, it's good" sort of way. But then again I have a fondness for cheesy sitcoms.

I met her a few years ago at The New Orleans Jazz And Heritage Festival. She was indeed very sweet and a big music fan.

 

She’s in my favorite scene from Planes, Trains and Automobiles. I’d post it here, but it’s very NSFW.

 

Anybody remember her from David Letterman's short-lived NBC morning talk show, where she played Mrs. Marv Mindenheim ? That was the first time I remember seeing her play the sweeter-than-pie housewife character she perfected to a T.

 

A friend of mine has acted with Edie several times (stage and TV), and says she's as smart, fast, and funny as you might imagine. A really good comic actress with great timing.

Her scene with Steve Martin in Trains, Planes, and Automobiles is one of the classics. That was a 30-second laugh in the theater. (Be warned it's very much NSFW)

What was it like meeting her?

 

The character's name was actually Mrs. Marv Mendenhall. I can't remember what my wife was wearing today, but this I can remember...

 

Loved her in The Hogan Family.

 

We exchanged pleasantries and told her I loved the song she wrote with my friend musician Paul Sanchez who was about to perform. She thanked me for the compliment and said she loved it too. Just a brief conversation but she was cool. Here's the song with the intro about Edie...

Dang, that's a shame. Edie is one of those performers you're always glad to see in a film. She made even the smallest parts memorable (as her brief appearance in "Planes, Trains & Automobiles" showed). She was kinda like the female version of Dick Miller.

 

It really is a shame.

 

So sad to hear. I just saw her in the Elvira movie a few days ago.

 

I worked with her a lot.
A sweet and genuine individual.
Maybe you just can't "stand" her character.

 

That's the main reason I know her. She was great in that role.
