I’ve always enjoyed the 96 Rocket series, but as I wrote, this would have been a welcome upgrade. Maybe we will see these appear as MQA’s using the same source tapes originally planned for SHM-CD. If you don’t like MQA, don’t decode and in essence it will be the same SQ we expected with the SHM’s.
This is a bummer...I was looking forward to these but I got my CDJapan cancellation email today. It's good for the wallet, especially with all the other wonderful box sets being released, but that's about it. I'll have to live with the 15-ish different versions of GBYBR now...sheesh, how's an old OCD collector supposed to get by? Cheers
You will find that slackness eases when you get into the high res formats. The two disc sacd is a beauty to hold and sounds pretty good and the dvd audio is superb in surround. And the blu ray audio is great for stereo. My wallet is tightening as I speak.
I placed my order for most of the titles from CDJapan on November 22nd. I haven’t received a cancellation email yet. The order looks to be still active and payment has been confirmed. Has anyone else not received a cancellation notice from CDJapan? You’d think they’d send them all out at the same time.
Last one was 1996. I think there was one previous to that which were the original 1980’s discs. So not as many as you’re implying. And unfortunately the 2018 SHM have been cancelled.
Mine was most definitely cancelled - all the EJ titles - in my current order. You should contact them as I highly doubt you’re going to receive them. The series was cancelled.
All of these labels had the complete MCA catalogue remastered using new source (besides the 1996 rocket source) and released after the Rocket remasters? The slated SHM series looked promising because 2018 mastering from the US master tapes were supposed to be used. That’s what I meant in my reply. Sorry I wasn’t clear.
Doing a little research on Discogs, it seems the source for all (including the stereo layer on the 2004 SACD’s) world wide releases (be it remastered, reissues, Japanese paper sleeves etc) were all using the Metropolis Studios London 1995 remastering by Tony Cousins (for the EJ Rocket reissue campaign), as the source, up to and including the 2013 Japanese SHM -CD series of the classic EJ years. To think we were this close to a fresh remastering from the original master tapes. Ahh!
Don't be upset - something will come from this attempt and probably already next year. As for info, Japanese part is incorrect: One of the beauties of the Japanese releases is that besides the world's best quality of the Mini LP covers, the best CD materials and the most accurate and limited pressing, they also release, time by time, something unique, available in Japan only, as Elton John 2008-2009 24-bit Remastering from Japanese Dub Master Tapes, which maybe in better condition than original. I thought that everybody read about at Japan Mini LP SHM-CDs - New Releases, George Harrison and more (Post #414-420), but I see that I have to re-post it here:
