Empty Garden..gorgeous coda which it would have loved twice as long with more of a buildup. Not because it's about Lennon, but melodically it's my favorite post 70's Elton John song.

My favourite songs seem to share a feel or a mood. Another feel and another day might have made it "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road," "Harmony," and "Blues for My Baby and Me." Some songs are inseparable from the artist and others are the kind I imagine will live on even the day the artist and all his funny costumes and eyewear are a past memory. I was studying music theory when I encountered Elton John's music and I still think a lot of it in terms of, ahem, harmony, not performance, and to me, his best songs are often those I find most rewarding as compositions. (That is not to say I don't have huge admiration for him as a performer - my favourite costume of his is the Donald Duck one.)

Really hard to keep off Ticking and Empty Sky, the latter maybe my most listened to EJ track.

I attended a sold out, packed Saturday concert on the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour. Elton came out for the first encore, and stopped at Davy's mic to say, "You all know what tonight is." The audience positively erupted, about as happy a collective crowd as I have ever witnessed. Feeding off that energy, Elton and band rocked "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting."

That has to be one of my three favorites from the album.

St. Peter definitely falls in my top five. Great melody but extra great lyrics, IMO..especially for those of us who ponder the subject mater.
