Thought I read 36 songs. Another list.
Be happy with more original EP recordings myself. Got to attract a new audience I guess.

I am intrigued by some of the rarer gems like Men With Broken Hearts (Hank Williams poem), Any Day Now, Edge Of Reality and Let Yourself Go. Baz went deep into Elvis's catalogue and chose some really interesting lesser known songs.

I am actually watching his latest movie on Amazon Prime, The Unbearable Weight Of Massive Talent. It's a hoot. He does a great job of mocking his own perceived talent and quirky personality.

Did I say Steve was a JLL fan, or a fan of Rock 'n Roll? No. As a matter of fact, I said: 'In regard to Steve Allen: While I agree that putting Elvis thru the stuff he did on Steve's show was pretty stupid, and you could tell Steve wasn't exactly a Rock 'n Roll fan, especially with his famous ''poetry reading" of the lyrics to 'Be-Bop-A-Lula'

All I was getting at was by the time JLL was on the show, Steve was a little more tolerant toward the whole thing if nothing else. Nowhere did I say Steve Allen loved a 'Whole Lot of Shakin' Going On' or Jerry Lee himself for that matter. Just said he was more willing to give a Southern Rock 'n Roller a chance without mocking him while he was a guest on Steve's show...

Also, he*l no I don't think Carson was a personal fan of everyone or everything that was on his show either.

And also, for the record, look at what I posted in reply to Price.pittsburgh's post: My reply post, post #1083, says "fair enough'... I wasn't arguing with him. Why you took it upon yourself to gripe at me about something I posted and basically conceded to the posters reply to my post, I have no idea. Feeling a bit argumentative maybe?

I'm going to have to remember that and hope I think of it the next time someone asks "Where did Lennon say that?" Seriously, some of the Beatles' off the wall crazy fanatics act like Lennon never said it. It's like they can't leave The Beatles themselves be upstaged by something one of The Beatles themselves said that was complimentary toward someone else...

Lennon doesn't say it in the documentary himself. I'm an Elvis fan first but as said, it appears it's a revision of his quote that NOTHING really affected me until Elvis

Well, I don’t have the patience to sit through an entire Beatles doc. However, I did a quick skim of The Compleat Beatles and didn’t find it. Like I said memory is fallible. I just can see him sitting in a room being interviewed and saying it. So, either I missed it in the documentary, it’s in a different documentary, or my brain imprinted that quote on a different interview and he truly never said it. In the latter case, wow and yikes. I’m sorry. I do know I was quite taken aback by the statement as I still am today true or not. It seems to have been attached to him quite solidly unfortunately. It is a grandiose statement as there most certainly was something before Elvis, but it did seem in character with Lennon’s early influences. Really does feel like something he would say.

So, I’ll file this subject in the maybe maybe not category going forward. Case dismissed for lack of evidence.

I thought Austin Butler and Riley Keough looked like they would make a striking couple, but Austin has a girlfriend and Riley is married, so I think that is out of the realm of possibilities, Lol.

On a more serious note, I have been following Riley's acting career since she made the highly critically acclaimed series, The Girlfriend Experience, Volume One. I had read some terrific reviews and my lady and I decided to check it out. We ended up binge watching all thirteen episodes. While it is somewhat explicit, as the story involves Riley's character working her way through her internship for a law firm by escorting on the side, the direction and production is top notch. The intrigue and plot surrounding the shenanigans at the law firm actually become as interesting as her work as a high end call girl.

I cannot recommend this series enough, and the whole story runs just under six hours. It really goes by fast, with a very good supporting cast and shot around some great luxurious locations in Chicago and other grand locations. The series executive producer is Steven Soderbergh. Again, there are some fairly explicit sexual scenes, so this series is for adults only

Here is a nice rundown of some of the reviews on Rotten Tomatoes. Right now, the average score is actually 79%, not the 77% that the narrator quotes in the video. These are reviews from critics and that's a pretty good average. Jurassic World Dominion is averaging a pitiful 30% among critics, nevertheless, it is raking in the cash at the box office, so a positive score is not critical for box office success. The audience score for the new Jurassic is way higher than the critical score with a 78% positive review rate. There is also some previously unseen footage in the Elvis video, although they are very brief moments.

It is very difficult to prove a negative, so there will likely never be absolute proof that Lennon never said those words. But at this point, no one has been able to find any proof that he did say it, so unless such proof emerges it's best to assume that it is a false/inaccurate quotation.

We were discussing this topic last year, and forum member @Odradek found what is probably the earliest instance of this spurious quotation being cited, in Jerry Hopkins' 1980 book Elvis: The Final Years:
It was inevitable [in 1970] that Presley's manager, Colonel Tom Parker, would put this phenomenon on tour. People had been after the Colonel to do this for years, ever since the Beatles did for the sixties what Elvis had done ten years before that. After all, hadn't the Beatles said Elvis was their inspiration? Hadn't John Lennon said, "Before Elvis there was nothing"? But the Colonel wisely rejected all offers, fearing the possibility of failure due to premature release. In no way did he want Elvis to be regarded as another oldie-but-goodie on the comeback trail.

Hopkins doesn't cite a source for the quotation, and the way he phrases it as a question makes me suspect he was going off memory and wound up paraphrasing Lennon's actual comment "Nothing really affected me until I heard Elvis." The two statements are similar enough that it's likely the former derived from a misremembering of the latter. And from there, people probably started repeating it from the Hopkins book.

You and my daughters are beating me to the punch. I really look forward to your feedback as I know you are quite the film connoisseur. I have read a lot of professional reviews, but to be quite honest, I would rather hear from people like yourself that have a strong interest and appreciation for music in general than professional critics, who seem to always wear their own musical bias on their sleeve.

Having said all of the above, I am really looking forward to @GillyT's go to source for movie reviews, Kermode and Mayo's Take. Until they release their review of the new Elvis biopic, I will settle for these two gents, who are just fantastic. The emotion they feel after seeing the movie and Austin's Butler's incredible transformation as Elvis is just palpable. At one point one of them compares the movie to Gladiator, from an emotional standpoint. Samuel was going to give the film a 9/10, before his colleague told him that Austin did much or all of his own singing as Elvis. After hearing that Austin did his own singing for the movie (not all of the later Elvis of course), he moved his rating of the movie to 9.5, Lol. These guys are awesome. I cannot believe how emotionally affected they were by the movie. I think that's a good sign for all of us Elvis fans.
