I have no interest in what professional reviewers say. When your average movie goer goes to see a movie they go in hoping/expecting to like it. I mean why would you pay to see a movie you expect to hate? Hence if they come out not liking a movie you know there's a problem. The pros however go in looking for things to criticize. It's their job after all. And they look for problems that will have no effect on the average movie goers experience.

My son told me the other day: "Shall we go to watch the Elvis movie together?" I said "Fine, but you are no Elvis fan at all. U sure you wanna go?" He answered "Trailer looks really good."
So we're going next friday. Can't wait.

I thought I had already posted this clip before, but I don't see it anywhere now, so I will post it here. I like the fact that Austin is standing in front of that huge wall of gold and platinum records from around the world. A great interview too!

I would agree with this, but I would caveat with only those average movie goers who I know or trust.

I find most people simply parrot the opinions of others, or put too much effort into trashing something just to get clicks or likes or whatever. A films score on IMDB or RT does nothing to sway me.

If I'm interested enough in a film to watch it (especially in a theatre), I won't read reviews and often I won't even see the trailer. I go in blind, and let the movie play do its thing.

I watched the first few trailers for this but I'd prefer to go in blind, too. I haven't watched any of the interviews posted here - I'd rather see the guy play Elvis and then hear about how he did so than the other way around.

Yeah, the Jerry Hopkins book from 1980 is still the earliest place I can find that has the "... there was nothing" quote. And I've searched both places like the Internet Archive, with hundreds of books on Elvis and the Beatles and thousands of books on popular music more generally, and paywalled databases with tens of millions of the most multifarious documents, ranging from major US and UK newspapers to PhD theses. I still haven't found any indication of when and where Lennon is supposed to have said it. As for his saying it on camera – it's such a famous quote that it would be all over YouTube if that had happened.

And it's interesting that subsequent to 1980, but only then, the presence of the quote in various Elvis- and Lennon-related media just explodes practically overnight. By 1987, it was already being used to open the Cinemax documentary Elvis '56 (narrated by Levon Helm), and by 1994 an entire book came out titled Before Elvis There Was Nothing, by Patrick Higgins (it's all various quotes about Elvis, naturally unattributed, paired with photos of him). When Lennon died, there were probably journalists around who had recently read Hopkins's book, which had come out less than six months earlier, and dug out the quote for obituaries and the like, which may have given it a flying start. It was also certainly helped on its way by featuring in Albert Goldman's infamous 1981 Elvis "biography", which regrettably is still one of the most widely disseminated Elvis books.

One more quick promo for the upcoming television special, Exclusively Elvis on 20/20 Tuesday. It's really nice to see that hug that Lisa Marie gives Austin Butler.

Bucket list thing today. Got to finally step on the very stage he worked on all those years.

The showroom at the Westgate Hotel Casino, the theater now called the International Theater.

No funky angels on the ceiling to be seen....

It is still a great sounding theater to this day, even with the theater seating replacing the original booths and table arrangements. As I said before, I got to see Charlie Rich in 1975 closing night with Elvis set to open the next night. I have seen a ton of acts in the latest theater configuration, everybody from Kenny Rogers, Martina McBride, LeAnn Rimes to Faith Hill. I also got to go backstage and hang out with Kenny Rogers several times before his shows. I had a chance meeting with his A&R guy in the Hilton coffee shop and we become friends instantly. I also got play 21 with Kenny Rogers as the dealer for a special promotion. Kenny looked at me after I hit 21 a couple of times and said with a grin, "This guy is the luckiest guy in the world." I won the contest too, Lol. It's still one of my favorite theaters to this day. The replication by Baz and his wife for the Elvis movie looks just amazing. Just as I remember it looking for Charlie Rich, minus the main stage ramp extension that Elvis had put in after the Aloha From Hawaii show in 1973.

This is a pretty amazing and raw video from a man who was basically raised to hate Elvis Presley for stealing music from black people. He was invited by a friend to a screening of the new Elvis biopic and very reluctantly, he decided to go. After seeing the movie and doing his own research afterwards, he came away with a completely new perspective on Elvis. A very brave and honest video, if there ever was one.

The week is finally upon us and it's only now beginning to dawn on me just how big this moment is. Seeing all those pics come out of the cast visiting Graceland: the family all out in support (Lisa's first true outing since the recent terrible events), images of Austin spending time with Presley's, playing Elvis' acoustic guitar in the Jungle Room, speaking with Lisa, speaking with Riley (just the fact that Elvis' grand-daughter is now taking part in the conversations is quite heart-warming). It's all coming together that this is the moment the Presleys (and EPE!) were waiting for. Their moment has finally come. The next (and likely final...?) push to keep the pulse of Elvis' longevity going for another few decades with the success of this movie.

And from a fans' perspective this is really an significant moment for us all too. There's a lot wrapped up into it which I don't know if we'll be able to really figure out. It's sort of the the other side of the coin to what actually started with The Searcher.

Anyway, I look forward to my early screening. I'll definitely drop my thoughts here and report back to the clubhouse haha.

By the way, isn't it ironic that the promotion for the movie has been absolutely ridiculous? Almost...like a circus. (Beat) Someone we all know would have been very, very proud of the advertising avalanche during these last few months (Given Baz's attention to detail, I seriously was expecting that during the premiere, Baz would have made all the workers and crew wear promotional straw hats for the occasion!).

Well a few days now, least for me.
I’m not expecting 100% Elvis Presley dance moves natural rhythm, or singing for that matter .. 15 songs will be dubbed. What I’m looking forward to is being entertained.

What a great post my friend. I am feeling quite a bit of emotion as well. It really is so heartwarming to see the three generations of the Presley ladies all together to talk about this movie. I can hardly wait to read the true Elvis fans feedback on this fine forum. I won't see it until the 28th, but I will be excited to read everybody's thoughts on this thread.

From the several times I've seen the trailer in the theater, I can confidently state that this is a film that definitely needs to be seen on a huge screen with an excellent sound system.
