    Petzi,

Trust me on this one friend. Get and stick with Steve's versions of Elvis only. Everything else is just a compressed second best. Unless we're talkin' vinyl.;)

Zounds are nothing like DCC and MFSL recordings and barely measure up to Mastersound. The only thing that's a bit appealing is the variety of albums that they have.

    Hope this helps ya.:D

I have an Alan Parsons Project Zounds CD, and one of the few English phrases I can find in the notes is "NoNOISE-Mastering."

    Kym,

I own this one as well and on the back it says Cedar which is a no-noise program. Once you hear either Steve's version of Sirus/Eye In The Sky (Rock Of The 70's Vol. 4) or the Mofi I Robot you'll understand completely.:)

Yes, "Sirius/Eye In The Sky" on my Reelin' In The Years Vol. 4 does sound great. But you know, I never thought the MoFi I Robot was that much different from the regular Arista CD.

I think the best version of any Alan Parsons material can be found on The Definitive Collection mastered by Parsons himself.

I don't know about that one Kym as I find that there are strikingly similar sounding masters for both my MFSL: I Robot and Steve's mastering where as the Arista releases of Alan Parsons sound overly compressed, but I haven't heard the set that you describe, and the Zounds version doesn't sound better than anything except the Arista.

I ones read an interview (in a German magazine) with the guy doing the remasters at Zounds and in the interview he went into the combination of no-noise software he uses during the remastering work, and he uses it a lot.
The discs I own (Dire Straits & Stevie Wonder) aren't worth buying.

I sympathize with you. I am a lucky owner of both Steve-Hoffman-mastered Elvis CDs, but, er, how many albums did Elvis record ?

Any particular vinyl to look out for ?

    Petzi,

That's all Steve was able to do. They wouldn't let him do any others. As far as vinyl Presley goes I'll have to turn this iver to Steve, Sckott or Grant or someone else who knows more than I.;)
