The saddest thing of all though is that here in 2020, NONE of the above-mentioned Sun releases is definitive in terms of both sound quality and completeness. You still need several sources to get everything in the best sound.
Claus will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the only previously unreleased track on here is the other side of the second acetate, which was greedily left off Platinum so they could get us completeists to buy this set.
I don't have Sunrise anymore but the last six tracks on disc 2 are from Louisiana Hayride and were new at the time, at least officially. The sound is awful and some of the tracks run too fast, iirc. The Blue Moon outtakes on were also previously unreleased.
I saw it years ago. It was really good. Even my wife who isn't an Elvis fan thought it was really good. The crowd really reacted to it. I'd recommend it if you're a fan.
Does it still tour? I don't think it ever made it to Australia, otherwise I probably would have gone.

I'm not sure why, because I did a ton of home recordings myself, but it seems like a sort of intimate invasion, of sorts ... I know a lot of my home recordings, I wouldn't necessarily want people listening to them... I was often experimenting for my own amusement and pleasure... and I kind of assume that often Elvis would have been to. Of course Elvie being Elvie, he was probably also testing out material for his album and such also... Anyhow, I would love over the weekend for folks with the knowledge to share their thoughts on the Home recordings, and also for those of you well read in the Elvis history, perhaps share with us, how they came about, and if there are any significant things that would give us any insight into the recordings, or the reasons for them, or any of those little details that shed more light on the guy we are looking at .... that would be very cool. I know we have skipped a few tracks that are previously unreleased in the last couple of albums, but we are heading into the FTD era, and it seems that very little of it will fail to appear in the next twenty years of releases. On Monday we'll start running through these home recordings, unless our wise panel of experts out there tell me that we would be better to wait for the FTD, or legacy releases to do that. It's kind of exciting times ahead from what I can see. Cheers Mark
I don't have Home Recordings, but it looks like many were already released on the 60s box and Platinum. There's also some on the 60s 'vault' disc on The Complete Albums box. Does anyone know how many were previously unreleased when this came out?

The material on Home Recordings were previously unreleased except: When The Saints Go Marching In (Platinum) Mona Lisa (A Legendary Performer vol. 4) After Loving You (Platinum) If I Loved You (Love Songs - Time-Life) Write To Me Naples (A Golden Celebration) My Heart Cries For You (A Golden Celebration) Dark Moon (A Golden Celebration) FTD's In A Private Moment can be seen as a companion to Home Recordings. Most of the unreleased tracks are only available on this cd.
Cheers mate. Your help and knowledge has been a real blessing on these threads, and I appreciate it greatly
I think there were a few home recordings on the Golden Celebration set, too. Think I need to visit my folks when safe to get this CD back. Worth it for the gorgeous Dark Moon alone.
I’m kind of surprised RCA officially released an album of home recordings. As with some of the Louisiana Hayride material, the home recordings are pretty raw for a mass market release, and I’m sure there must have been at least a few people who bought this CD, took it home, and said “What the hell is this?”.
Hey, what were you doing in my house when I got home with my new Elvis release 'The Home Recordings' back in 1999, furthermore secretly eavesdropping on my own personal remarks?
Wasn't it the same version of 'I'm beginning to forget you' from Leg Perf 4 too? Hated how they segued them into each other and then when they turned up on other stuff later they faded them up instead of remastering them. Gee, I'm a grumpy git at times!
I think that's why this CD hasn't traveled with me over 12 years of moving homes, although I should reclaim it from my old bedroom at some point.
For anyone interested I got this link in my email ... It is a listeners guide from our very own @shanebrown Elvis Presley: A Listener's Guide
I remember the owner of the record store where I bought it gave me a "you know what this is you're buying, right?" speech when I took it up to the counter. It's been awhile since I've listened to this, but my recollection is that the mastering did not do these recordings any favors. The tracks it has in common with A Golden Celebration sound MUCH better on Golden. Smothering overuse of noise reduction on this set.
Amen... I know it's perhaps wrong to disparage others' work but whenever I heard an Elvis CD that was below par on the mastering side, I bet myself a pound to a penny I would read that name in the credits. And sure enough...
I just checked the credits and Reidel was also involved with Sunrise while Jan Eliasson worked on Memories. Eliasson and Reidel worked at the same studio in Denmark at the time and I have no idea why they were mastered there and not in the U.S. Reidel hasn't worked on any Elvis released for many years now but Eliasson is still mastering some of the soundboards for FTD.
