My mom ran an emergency room and my step dad was an EMT so they watched these shows religiously. She once wrote a letter to ABC admonishing them for an episode of The Rookies where they showed an improper execution of CPR and got a postcard with Kate Jackson on it thanking her for being a fan. She never found fault with Emergency though. Jack probably kept things dead balls accurate. I wonder if that was where my Julie London fetish developed. Great theme song too. Was that Quincy Jones?
Was never a fan of the show. I never watched it, though I saw the ads at the time. BTW, 50 years ago I was 18.
My all-time favorite tv show. I remember watching it on TV Land in the late 90s for the first time and was hooked immediately. (I was born well after the shows run in 1987). I watched it every afternoon when I got home from school. I finally got the complete series on dvd a couple of years ago.
Not sure if it was mentioned on the forum or not yet but we lost Tim Donnelly back in Sept 2021. EMERGENCY'S TIM DONNELLY - Los Angeles County Fire Museum He played Chet Kelly. He also did a few episodes of Dragnet. I haven't seen Emergency! in years and wish it would come back to MeTV. My wife and I watched the entire series of Adam-12 and Dragnet on MeTV last year and it made me want to see this again. Here he is as the Crimson Crusader on Dragnet:
It's funny I couldn't stand Dragnet, yet I loved both Emergency and Adam 12. I used to think my brother would choose Dragnet (and Perry Mason) for his turns on our lone tv because they were the driest types of shows... people talking in monotone a fair amount. Nowadays I prefer actors and newsreaders with that same unexciting, lacking emotional excess, delivery! I'd probably have hated Foyle's War as a kid yet have the whole thing on DVD as an adult. Remember 'Chet' on Emergency well; thanks for the memories!
I grew up not far from the fire station that was used in the show. It was LA County station 127. As a kid when the show was airing, it was big deal to drive passed that particular fire station.
Haven't seen Emergency! on any of the free streamers, but I'm waiting....patiently. Is Chet the only cast member who has passed?
And I grew up not too far from "Rampart General Hospital", then known as Harbor General Hospital and now Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
Julie London passed away in 2000. Robert Fuller is still with us at a young 88 years old. Bobby Troupe passed away in 1999. Mike Norell (Capt Hank) is still with us at 84. Mike Stoker (who was also a real life fire fighter) is also alive at 80. I think most everyone is still alive other than Julie, Bob and Tim.
Bobby Troupe was a musician as well, jazz I believe. I could easily look this up but Sunday evening laziness has taken its toll again. Actually, Sunday evening laziness takes its toll on me most evenings.
All I know is Ringers Lactate or D5W TKO, fixed everything as long you transported as soon as possible.
The Tubes 1975 song "What Do You Want From Life?" includes "...an autographed picture of Randy Mantooth..."
CoziTV has apparently produced a special to be called "Emergency 50 The Show That Saved Your Life", with new current interviews with Kevin Tighe and Randolph Mantooth and fans and clips and etc. Cozi has run promos for this, "Coming soon" with no date announced yet.
Emergency! has become one of my favorite shows these last two years.... (but CoziTV keeps moving it all around their schedule) Apparently the Los Angeles County Fire Museum was going to have a three day event, January 14-16, 2022, with Kevin Tighe and Randolph Mantooth. I didn't hear about this, and the only evidence on the net as of right now is on Google until their little cache disappears (screencap image): The second link shown there is to this page link (screencap image below): EMERGENCY'S 50TH DEC UPDATE - Los Angeles County Fire Museum
