I picked up this beautiful beast on Saturday for $20 off of FB Marketplace. The add said "working record player and records". I took it out of the box once we got home and new she was something special. I feel a bit guilty as I was just looking for a turntable that someone no longer loved so I could listen to my fathers records with my son. So, now I have this beautiful beast that I am afraid to even touch. What do I do? Do people work on these in San Diego? How do I know who to trust with it.

Here's the million dollar question, if you were me, what would you do with this gem?

    Thank you in advance.

I’ve restored a couple Empire tables. They aren’t horribly complicated (although the 5 series is more complex than the 2/3 series), but they do require (and deserve) proper restoration, and parts can be hard to come by if needed. Once they are restored they are very nice tables. In particular, the tonearm and cartridge sled can be troublesome, and parts aren’t readily available. The stock arm requires a pretty low compliance cartridge to sound its best. I’d love to help you out, but I’m not really sure what to tell you without knowing the condition of the table and how it’s configured. Feel free to send me a private message with more info if you want and I’ll try to help as much as I can.

You can't message him and he can't message you either because you haven't been here long enough or posted enough in Music Corner, Audio Hardware or Visual Arts Forums yet. IIRC and I'm not 100% certain, it's 50 posts in any of those Forums or residency of 30 days before you can message someone.

You haven't given this much thought have you? Do you really think she's willing to post her email address here in a generally public viewed Forum?

Yeah, I didn’t figure so. But it’s easy enough to set up a burner email, I do it all the time. Not many other options in this case. Just trying to be helpful.
