    "ENTERPRISE" New Season any opinions?

I liked it. I've been watching the show mostly out of loyality as a Star Trek fan. A few of the previous episodes have been pretty good. But at the end of last season I thought the cliche of going back to Nazis and WWII was a mistake. But I think they carried it off pretty well. I like the alternate universe timeline idea. It's been a staple of SF for years but never really handled the much in Hollywood. Let alone doing it intelligently. But I thought it worked here. I have an open question though. Wasn't the German officer escorting Archer in the truck the same actor who played the German officer in ST Voyager's two part episode where the Hirogen take over holodecks? The one who was seeing B'Elana? Anyway, I thought the woman from the past beamed aboard the ship was a rip off from the film of First Contact with a touch of the Joan Collins character form the original series. But maybe there will be anohter twist. But bottom line, I really enjoyed it. Anyone else see it?

I watched it, and am hoping that Porthos doesn't have his screen time cut like last year. Now that the captain's back, I'm sure we'll see more interaction.

The German officer looked familiar to me. Could be the recycled costumes we've read about here...........

This season of Enterprise is taking an interesting turn with the alternate time line story set in WWII. If you like that, I hear that the grandfather (maybe great-grandfather) of Data's father, Dr. Soong, is supposed to appear. Myself, I'm a little mixed on my opinion of the show itself, but I'm glad that the Andorians are being used in the series because I've grown tired of seeing Klingons in just about every episode of ST:TNG and DS9.

I like this show better than DS9 and Voyager, especially last season. The first 2 seasons were pretty flat, but last year was good, and this week's eppy was pretty interesting. It's nice to know that the main creative guy, Manny Coto, who wrote this week's script, is a long-time, die-hard Trekkie. Nice to see Bobby Bacala gettin' some extra work!

I watched it and enjoyed it. It was an entertaining hour of Trek television and I'll continue watching - as mentioned by John Oteri, mostly out of loyalty to the franchise.

I can't help feeling though that the franchise has run out of gas. To me, though I'm watching, it feels like a paler imitation of what's come before. In no way is it better than Deep Space Nine. That series often gets tossed around as an example of bad Trek, but it's far better than that - maybe ranking among the best Treks ever.

Better than Voyager? Yeah, I'll maybe give it that.

Yes you are right, Brent Spiner is playing the role of Dr. Soong's great-great grandfather, Arik Soong, a not so nice guy. Manny Coto who is the new show-runner is a huge Trek fan and plans on using classic Trek influences on this season of Enterprise. Some very welcome news in my opinion. So once we finish off with the WWII storyline we should begin to see some references back to classic Trek. Shatner may even appear as Kirk if they can work out the financial problems...

Ed Bishop Incredibly, I'm still here

They lost me after DS9 went off the air. My sister remains among the faithful, but when you go backward in time, rather than 'boldly go' forward(or in Picard's case 'baldly go', as Mad mag put it), well.....not what I'm interested in.

As inconsistent as Enterprise has been, I've always enjoyed it. Scott Bakula was a brilliant choice, and it's nice to know that Southern accents haven't died out 200 years hence ;-). Thanks, Trip.

The theme song was a shock at first, but I noticed the remixed or re-recorded it for the second season, to much better effect (less bad Jefferson Starship, more strumming acoustic guitars).

Hear, hear! Another soul who digs DS9, the undiscovered country of Star Trek lore! It took a long time, about 5 seasons to convince SH to watch Voyager, and finally he really got into it. Sometime ago, I loaned him the first season dvds of DS9 with my lengthy backstory, but with his scheduele and Michael's first birthday coming up, I doubt if he'll get into it. But I have to admit, it took me time to really get into both. I watched the first seasons of both DS9 and Voyager out of loyality, and by the 3rd seasons of each I was really hooked on them.

I'm hoping the same will be true of Enterpirse. But I totally agree with Lisa about the theme song. More John Williams that Paul :agree: I mute it every time the opening credits come on. It's okay with the instrumental version at the close, which they box out on Channel 13, the UPN affiliate in LA. I'd much prefer that in the opening. Though that screeching electric guitar seems out of place. I really dug the Bach trumpets in DS9!
And the timpanis and those nice changes in the Voyager theme are cool.

But I also agree, it's good to see Porthos wagging his tail again. They way he was moping around in the last few episodes I was sure this season he'd be holding out for more Kibbles and Bits. And K'pla to the Klingons already. Send them all off to Stovakor! I would really like to see Jeffery Colms in yet another ST incarnation, as an Enterprise regular like he did on DS9. I think it would be great if Commander Shram ended up with T'Pal, then that would sure explain how the Andorians and Vulcans melded their differences! She could touch my feelers any time.

The only drawback to the alterted history timeline is that it's kinda predictable. Any one want to give me odds on the Nazis being defeated again?

One last thing...Did I miss a plot point? If time has been altered, and the Federation Future erased...why the hell is Enterprise still floating around up there?

Same reason that Enterprise-E was floating around back after the Borg changed Earth's history in FIRST CONTACT - they were somehow caught up in the same temporal mechanics that caused the time change.

They're gonna somehow have to go back further in time to restore the timeline - unless all of the ENTERPRISE series is really taking place in an alternate universe, a common theory among Trekkers.

    Thanks, HG.

And I think Star Trek indeed is taking place in another universe...it's down the street from me at Paramount. That place IS an alternate universe!

If you're gonna lend SH 90's science fiction, may I suggest Babylon 5 instead of anything Trek?

I never came around to watch "Enterprise" at all. Many have said that it was not that good, but part of the reason is that I di dnot want to get "hooked" on another episodic TV show again.

As far as DS9 goes, I think that is the most underated of the Treks. Season 7 was fantastic. I recall that I looked forward to each episode as I did when I was younger, as the story arc made it's way to the end of the series.

I'll admit I never gave DS9 a chance--I only watched the first two years, on and off. By that time I was out of the TV episode phase and not watching much of *anything* broadcast.

The first season I HATED the theme song.

The second season I actually listened to it while watching the visuals behind it... I fell in love with it.

The third season they changed it, and now I hate it again.

The rest of show is good, though... :D

Remember that thread about "dated music?"

I think part of Gene Rodenberry's philosophy was to avoid contemporary references as much as possible, so as to make his stories more "timeless." Thus, Trek does not "Rock."

Things are less strict since Gene's death, for better or worse...

And that is my main objection to the "Enterprise" theme by Diane Warren...I find it EXTREMELY dated sounding...and it's not even "contemporary"... all the cliche`s in the production sound are circa 1984. Blech.

    JMHO, sorry.

We are currently getting the second season and I find it much more enjoyable than the first one.

I also prefer the revamped theme song. My favorite is Voyager's.

Lots of sexual tension, unheard of in ST. Voyager's would be still on if they had developed sexual tension between Seven of Nine and someone/something else. :)

I read they are going to make it more episodic this season, and keep arcs down to one or two shows. There will be no season-long arc this year.
But then, they did bring back the Sulibond. Maybe they'll be good guys this time. But like most of the others here, I think they milked or gauked the Klingon's to death. K'lah.

I watched the "Wrath of Data" episode Friday night. I liked how they brought in the Kahn elements, and the Eugenics war. But can anyone fill me in on the backstory?

Is Soong supposed to be Data's grandfather or father? Is he the same Soong that creates Data or the father of the guy who creates Data? Does anyone think T'Pal will "cheat" on her Vulcan husband, and get together with Trip. Will Commander Shram come back? Does anyone care?

Ok, is it just me or does Jolene Blalock (T'POL) look a little haggered this season. Check it out, she is not looking good(comparatively speaking). I wonder if there might be a drug problem to blame, not that I want to start any rumors, but she has definitely lost her "shine".

I watched the first three seasons of Enterprise more out of franchise "loyalty" than anything else and accidentally (though not regrettably) missed the first two episodes of this season.

The whole Xindi / temporal cold war thing was just absurd. It had nothing at all to do with the two things the show was supposed to be about:

    1) Exploration- when the show was being created, it was marketed as returning the TOS/TNG feel of "boldly going." Instead, they abandoned completely after the first season and tried to ramp up the drama by battling reptile creatures.

    2) Creation of Federation and early Trek history- how was the federation created? Let's see the stuff that other shows hinted at that might have happened during this time frame: Romulan war, Klingon problems, uniting with other planets, etc.

If the show had stayed the same, I'd have dropped it. However, I read about the change in management and direction and decided to stick with it, having missed the first two eps by accident which seemed to have tied up that whole arc that took the show off course. I saw the following episode which had the feel of that TNG ep after Picard was taken by the Borg- recovering from major trauma and getting the crew's life together. It was basically wiping the show's slate clean.

Now we're finally dealing with things that fit the Trek universe: eugenic leftovers, Klingons, etc. We will perhaps see why the Klingons don't like the Federation, setting up the enmity we see by TOS. And Brent Spiner's over-the-top performances are always a joy for me. I liked the last episode and look forward to its conclusion.

I assumed the character was looking haggard (intense)because she was trying not to show her feelings for Trip, and sorrow at having to get married. I did catch her own Kilborne's show, with some guy recently filling in during that hosting merry-go-round. She looked fine, and hot as usual. Though I think she looks better with the short brown wig rather than her real (?) long golden hair. She did mention on that show that she hangs out at the same Ralphs on Sunset I do, and shops in the middle of the night, also when I do. So maybe I'll ask her about her health, before she calls the cops on me.
