"Go All the Way" by the Raspberries was always a great song and i'd seen them do it several times -- usually lip-synced on TV. However, I came upon this LIVE version that absolutely kicks ass! And, man, am I wrong or is Eric Carmen one hard rockin' dude ?! Check it it out and enjoy:
Great power pop, deservedly receiving some recognition through use in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Historical footnote - that white Gibson being played by Eric was later sold to Joan Jett, who used it to play the iconic riffs in “I Love Rock and Roll” and other hits. Gibson eventually did a signature model of this fantastic guitar.
"Tonight" ! Already had a good Eric Carmen compilation .... then two years ago I got this 4 cd Raspberries set, all four of their albums together. very recommended ! Raspberries – Classic Album Set (2015, Box Set)
I don't know if I'd describe specifically Eric Carmen as "one hard-rockin' dude," but he did a lot of good music.
Eric Carmen's self-titled solo debut is an under-appreciated masterpiece with lots of catchy melodies and variety (even if he did steal the tunes of his 2 hit singles from Rachmaninoff). The hard-rocking "No Hard Feelings" tells the story of Raspberries' rise and fall very succinctly while getting in a couple of digs at the music industry. The uncut 7-minute version of "All By Myself" is a masterful centerpiece.
The first and second solo albums (self-titled "Eric Carmen" and "Boats Against The Current") on ARISTA are BOTH under-appreciated masterpieces, in my opinion. The opening track of "Eric Carmen" is one of his all-time best, "Sunrise" and it sounds like Brian Wilson opening his drapes for the very first time and seeing his very first sun rise!
He's one great "soft rockin' dude" as well ... This one always sounded like a long lost BEATLES track to me.
If you honestly want to give some credit where credit is truly due, when it comes to "POWER POP ROCKING" Eric Carmen & The Raspberries, then maybe you should spend about ten minutes watching the following ...
I must admit, when the strong backing vocals did not kick in at the chorus, I was nearly crushed - but thanks for sharing!
I agree with others. His first solo album is amazing and every track is sensational. I actually had the CD-4 Quadradisc back in the day and I wish they would release it in quad on disc...
Yes! I was going to mention "Sunrise", and somehow it slipped away. Great album opener, and some definite Beach Boys influence (That goes back to "Drivin' Around" on the Fresh Raspberries album). I remember reading a review of his debut album that said, "Eric's album may be the great lost Beach Boys album we've been waiting for."
Eric’s second solo album “Boats Against The Current” is the “real” great lost Beach Boys album. Check out “I Think I Found Myself”
I also like the solo hit he wrote once he’d realized he’d already purchased everything he ever wanted: “I’ll Buy Myself”.
I always liked this clip. The bit of scruffy beard offsets the pretty boy pop star vibe. Much more rock and roll.
