Most of us likely remember those compilation albums (mostly multi-artist, but some were compilations of a single artist) advertised on tv from the 70s to the 2000s, but did you ever buy any of them? While I never did personally, my mother did buy Instrumental Magic:

My sister did. She got the Time-Life 60s, Sounds of the '70s, and Singers & Songwriters sets on C.D.

Yes. I got this Monkees album from a TV offer in 1976. I loaned it to a neighbor, who took it with him to California. Never saw it again, but I eventually picked up all the tracks on other releases.

My wife's sister ordered an Elvis record set...she was young enough to not know what COD was, never the less it came when their Dad was home, and he wasn't pleased.

not this ad, there was one even earlier (late 70s?) that was really cheesy. I remember it distinctly, it had a blue background at one point and it had a sparkly tinsel special effect to lure in the late night crowd. One of the songs feature on the ad was Travelin' Band.

I can remember sitting in front of the TV waiting for the commercial to come on again so I could get the info.

I bought an 8 track of 1950s songs around 1974. Lots of those tv ads after the success of “American Graffiti “. Don’t remember the title

Two actually; a 2 LP Marvin Gaye collection advertised in the late 70s/early 80s, (& a very good collection actually), & a Time/Live 7 CD Rhythm & Blues, (aka Soul), collection.

Saw this a lot way back when. Lotta good tracks and, as you say, a party album.
Strange though that The Beach Boys song was ' Surf's Up ' . It doesn't fit the vibe of the rest if the album.

I never bought one of these but as a couch potato I've seen many commercials for them, and would memorize the song snippets and sing along with them.

Somewhat coincidentally, I've been playing YouTube uploads of old Mystery Science Theater 3000 broadcasts with commercials to fall asleep to. This Led Zeppelin comp commercial always wakes me back up.
