Somehow that wouldn't surprise me, that they'd do that. But in this case here's the US label . . .

Do you really want to hurt me
Always liked it, such a lovely bitter-sweet pop ballad. Had it on tape in the eighties. A unique frontman, lovable in his natural girliness.

Certainly better than a dub version of the main song. I never got the dub version fashion.

Very good band, though in the UK apart from A Horse With No Name reaching # 3, Ventura Highway and You Can Do Magic didn't even break the top 40.

History: America's Greatest Hits came out too early for You Can Do Magic, but does have the outstanding Sandman on it - the album is a multi-platinum seller!

Although if you remember the 1972 thread, I noted that "AHWNN" did reach #1 on the NME chart . . .

    Eddy Grant - I Don't Wanna Dance

    3 Weeks At No 1

19th No 1 of 1982 and No 510 in total.

"I Don't Wanna Dance" is a 1982 single by Eddy Grant. It went to number one on the UK Singles Chart and held there for three weeks in November 1982.[3] It was later released in the United States, but only reached No. 53 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1983. It was later reissued as the B-side of Grant's "Electric Avenue".

The song expresses Eddy's farewell to Britain being a land of class and colour divisions. Grant explained to the Daily Telegraph on June 27, 2008: "I Don't Wanna Dance can mean that you don't want to go out on the dancefloor or it could mean that you don't want to go along with an idea. That's how I try to write: you take it how you want, but I am basically a writer of protest."[4]

Written and produced by Grant, it was the most successful of his solo singles in the United Kingdom, and his first number one since "Baby Come Back" by The Equals in 1968.[5]

Although I prefer his earlier single...Living On The Frontline, you can't deny this songs downright catchyness (Is That A WORD!!!)

It is now! (Where have I heard that before!)

    Excellent feelgood music.

Not surprisingly turns upon many comps, both Reggae and Pop, amazingly it's all on Eddy Grant: Greatest Hits...

Love Living On The Frontline and Electric Avenue too.

I was battered with Marillion by friends, so bought a few of their 12" singles including this.

Unusually for an UK 12" single, it played at 33 1/3, because of the length of Grendel on side two.

It appears that at this stage, I'd nearly completely abandoned buying traditional 7" singles and had become a Hi-Fi snob!

I'm sure '82 was the last time I bought a 7" single also. From now on the odd 12" single and albums only...and that would stop also in '86.

In the States, "I Don't Wanna Dance" (and the same B side) were ish'd on Portrait, with Ice as an "imprint." No pic sleeve, alas:

Meanwhile, here's our look at U.S. equivalent label "newies" (future #1's, whether Official and/or NME, not included):
Two releases, first on Harvest . . .

. . . and then on Capitol, with PS:

The U.S., at the time, had a promo-only ish; instead we will be showing the 1986 re-release on Elektra:

I always assumed Duran Duran were coming out of the gate on top at this point with Rio. Learned something today.

I have Eddy Grant's Greatest Hits album, and it is awesome (as is this song). Unfortunately, we just didn't "get" him in the US (other than Electric Avenue pretty much). In fact one of his UK #1's didn't even get a US release.

I was expecting another Pass the Dutchie but this isn't bad. Nice and catchy and not too deep in the reggae. Good video too.
