    Can someone give me a suggestion here? I am probably missing something obvious. I have started to use Exact Audio Copy (V0.9 beta 4 form 22 May 2002)to burn some CDs. I don't have a problem with extracting, my problem is I can't figure out how to write with it.

    Here's what I am doing:

    1) I extract the files in .wav format to my hard drive.
    2) I click on Tools --> Write CD-R
    3) File -->New Cue Sheet
    4) Layout --> Append Files As New Track (index 1)...
    5) I re-arrange the files
    6) File --> Save Cue Sheet

    and then:

    7) CD-R --> but everything here is grayed out (Write CD, Display cd information) etc.

    Am I overlooking something?

    TIA

    When you extract, load the CD to be copied and go into "Action", then "copy image and create cue sheet". After the extraction is done remove the CD and pop in your CD-R. Then go to tools and click write CD-R. Then just hit "load cue sheet" when the layout editor pops open. Then open the wave file from the file menu in the layout editor, load it and hit CD-R in the layout editor.

    Hope this helps.:)

    thanks for the quick reply, Dave, but that didn't work. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I am making a compilaiton disk from several sources. I have saved each song as indiviudal files on the hard drive.

    I think the problem may be is that EAC does not "see" my burner. The pull down (on both the EAC main menu, and the CD Layout Editor) only shows my CD-ROM drive. The burner is external and connected with USB cable.

    If you can think of anything, I'd appreciate it. I'm shutting down now, I'll check tomorrow.

    I do not use the EAC program, but my hunch is that it does not support "external" CD-R/RW devices via USB or FireWire interface. If this is true then the only way EAC will recognize your CD-R/RW drive is if it is connected to your 1st or 2nd IDE channel on your motherboard.

    Sorry, I was referring to a disc to drive to disc burn and actually have no clue as how to rip individual tracks on EAC.

    Is your burner external? If so I would tend to agree with Gamma.

    Have you tried running the configuration wizard under EAC?

    This is what I do after ripping the files to hard drive
    Tools -Write cd-r
    Layout - Append Files As New Track (index 1)...
    Arrange if wanted
    CD_R - Write CD

    I usually don't bother with a cue sheet as I'm probably not doing the same one again. Hope this helps

    Stereotypic, I assume you're trying to make a CDR out of various tracks rather than a complete CD end-to-end, right?

    Well, I'm not Stereotypic but I'm sure that is the case Sckott.

    Ok, Then he wrote:

    2) I click on Tools --> Write CD-R
    3) File -->New Cue Sheet
    4) Layout --> Append Files As New Track (index 1)...
    5) I re-arrange the files
    6) File --> Save Cue Sheet

    I would...

    1) I extract the WHOLE DISC in Alt+F7 in .wav format to my hard drive.
    2) I click on Tools --> Write CD-R
    3) File -->LOAD CUE SHEET
    4) Navigate to the cue sheet made
    5) Double-click the cue sheet file
    6) Load disc and CDR-->Write CDR

    If you plan on using EAC for ripping individual tracks, that's great, but personally, NERO is easier an interface to compiule a disc from difference sources, IE a compilation.....

    Thanks, Sckott and Dave for the replies.

    I am pretty sure my problem is that EAC doesn't see the external drive. I tried the configuration, but that doesn't find it either.

    Right now I am trying to do an entire disk as suggested. I'll let you know.

    Sckott - you suggested Nero. I haven't tried that software yet. I've been using the Roxio software supplied with the burner. I read so many great things about EAC that I figured I give it a try.

    Nope, NG. It must be because EAC can not detect an external drive, or I can't detect how to have EAC detect it :laugh: . I tried the web site, but I couldn't find a reference to it.

    OK, that's weird then. Ever tried upgrading the ASPI layer from the Adaptec website? There's a reason why EAC can't see that external. Possibly because the USB driver does not translate the CDRW drive as enumerated hardware, only through software.

    That being said, there's not one machine I've used that EAC had a problem with, AFA using the registered hardware.

    Burning CDRW on a laptop that's external can be murder though... :(

    thanks for all of your help. I am scouring web sites for any info, and I'll report back. I'm a little reluctant to do any upgrades on this laptop as it belongs to the company that pays my salary!!

    I found this note:

    In order for EAC to use USB devices we copied Nero's 'WNASPI32.DLL' file to the EAC folder. Else this program will not recognize the USB recorder!
    On this web stite (Cdfreaks.com)

    So now, I'll check my sources for that .dll
