  1. AP may very well have a shot at producing a box set of the core catalogue on SACD. They have a proven track record with SRV, CCR, Doors, Pink Floyd and already have a relationship with EH from the two Hendrix titles that they've already done. My bet is Chad will have these in a box set at some point. If any label is going to handle this, I for one certainly hope it's Analogue Productions!

John Buchanan I'm just a headphone kind of fellow. Stax Sigma

Hopefully not in an exclusive box set - release the core catalogue properly remastered.

Basically, you're right. I already have great sounding records of JH's catalog. Buying SACDs would just be a collectors thing for me.

  4. With the CCR, SRV & Doors SACD's I think they offer both a box set and individual titles.

I don't want a box. 1. It costs too much. 2. Space for storing.

Right, but we had to wait years for the individual SRV titles.

Why don't Experience Hendrix create a website that offers everything Jimi recorded including jams, live stuff etc and offer them for sale as FLAC, MP3 and even High Res ? At a fair price of course. I'm sure Sony Music can be included in this.

Neil Young should do the same.

I am a huge fan of CDs,DVD & BluRay but I can see this being the future of buying music as my local shops in Australia continue to have less & less product on the shelf.

  8. I understand your sentiment. Personally I'm a fan of the box sets, but in the case of JH, after waiting all of this time for high res Jimi, I would gladly be the first in line for an SACD box of the catalog.

Makes it abundantly clear, IMO, didn't take the suggestions posted seriously.
    What's "seriously" bout ":p"?!?!
    WoW

    Of course in lieu of HiRez physical media;
    would want HiEnd Red Book.
    Duh!

    ==========

Should i call out the pittance of titles [tough to even use the plural/it's not even of Jimi's studio album releases] that EH via Sony/Legacy has available for HiRez download now???
Or, that you even posted "or higher (than 24/96 resolution) downloads"?!?!

    "Yeah, that'll happen!"

I want every recent CD to be a SACD Hybrid myself, and wish that car SACD players were also common. I love SACD.

    SA-CD Box Set Dreaming:
    Disc 1.
    UK "AYE" mono
US "AYE" Kramer original stereo mixes.
    Disc 2.
    "A:BAL" mono & stereo w/alternate mix.
    Disc 3.
    "EL" w/Track (like) mastering
    new 5.1 mix.
    Disc 4.
"SH" UK & US sequences w/correct mixes.
    Disc 5.
    "CoL"/"RB"/"WH"/"LE" from original master tapes.

DSD (only) 24/96 [dual layer when necessitated].

Would save "live" albums for a different box.

Not a box set of single album titles fan!
Agree tho, as others have insinuated, a (expensive) box set may be the only way to hear Hendrix HiRez physical media [for now/if at all].

Why not just release something like the Alternate Are You Experienced? A disc of alternate takes from the album itself. They could do the same for the other albums.

They could also release a Band of Gypsies disc of studio tracks and a disc of the best Experience outtakes that did not appear on the regular albums.

Part of the problem is EH and Sony, like previous admins, doesn't really see Jimi as a serious artist. For all their braggadacio, the still market him as a simple rock star.

"War Heroes" should be redone on cd like Rainbow Bridge and Cry of Love were.

    Also 'Black Gold' on cd.

Why not a complete 66/67 studio sessions box like Dylan's Cutting Edge set?

Not going to argue, at all, bout the lack of repect EH or other labels haven't shown Jimi since the early Seventies.
My bigly thingy w/EH [& others] is that lowest common denominator sales tactic. Always going for for the low hanging 'fruit' to, in their foolish molinds IMO, maximize sales.
Will recognize "WCSB" box set as a fan friendly release; just look how long that took to come to fruition.
Dumbing down Hendrix releases actually works against creating feverish new fans IMO.
By getting the greatest stuff out, outsiders may be pulled in, unlike releasing "Foxy Lady"* for the umpteenth time!

    * nothing against "Foxy Lady" nor foxy ladies in general!

I am losing interest in shows that have virtually the same set list. I am still holding out for the other Berkeley show and more Band of Gypsies live material.

Have a look at any of the Dylan bootleg series. Have a look at any of the Miles Davis box sets. Do you see a difference compared to the EH Hendrix releases concerning presentation and marketing?

The Berkeley shows should have been released together, perhaps with a disc of the rehearsal, as a multi-disc set. As far as I am concerned, it was another example of EH simply releasing small bits of material over time -- why release all of the Berkeley material in one place at one time, when you can spread it out over years across different releases? Regardless, it is ridiculous that the other Berkeley show remains unreleased well over a decade later.

I do wonder what is going to happen with the BoG Fillmore East tapes. At one point I thought EH might go down the Winterland route, not releasing the entire shows, but a box set containing a significant amount of performances from the tapes. Then, EH released the opening show last year. I personally think some of Hendrix's greatest, all-time playing exists on these BoG Fillmore East tapes, and it would be a shame not to release all of the music.
