“Extra special thanks to Paul Ahern for leaving town”

This mystifying bit is found in the liner notes to the Eagles’ 1974 On The Border LP. Apparently Mr. Ahern was also thanked for coming back to town in the liner notes for Dan Fogelberg’s Souvenirs LP, also released in 1974.

From what I can tell, Paul Ahern was a producer for Asylum Records. Anyone know what the story is behind this obvious in-joke?

 

I believe Marc Eliot explains in To the Limit what brought that on, but I can't recall it offhand.
