In the Coen brothers film, 'Hail, Caesar!', there are several films being shot at the Hollywood studio. There's 'Hail, Caesar! A Tale of The Christ', a biblical epic; an Esther Williams type aquatic ballet film (either I forget the title or it's never mentioned); 'Merrily We Dance', a British set sophisticated romantic comedy adapted from a Broadway play; 'No Dames', a Gene Kelly type musical; and an unnamed B western. Also, 'Lazy Ol Moon', a singing cowboy, B picture has just been released. A studio film from years before, 'On Wings With Eagles' - presumably a war picture - is also mentioned through-out.

I wish they'd make a Bounty Law as a super special deluxe box set extra! It'd be like those Maroon Cartoons in the deluxe Roger Rabbit set!

On The Air - David Lynch's criminally underrated TV series, which was cancelled during it's first series, and the TV show they were making - The Lester Guy Show

SCTV had a long-running soap opera parody called ' The Days of the Week '
Weird thing is though it wasn't that funny as it was too much like a real soap opera.

how about the dating show "You Can't Miss" that Bud goes on, hosted by Bill Maher? I think Married With Children had some other fake show references, but I can't remember..
also Family Matters had an episode with dating show called "Dudes" :)

I like some soaps and I still cringed when that bit would crop up yet again. The fake show I most looked forward to on SCTV was Mrs. Falbo's Tiny Town! The one where they decide to do a show in prison like Johnny Cash was the best!!!

I remember watching the NBC evening news in the mid 1970s and John Chancellor announced one night that after several years of doing the broadcast standing up, he was now sitting down.

"SCTV" sketches don't make a ton of sense for this thread as the series' premise was that it was a TV network.

The vast majority of the "SCTV" episodes revolved around fake TV series/movies/commercials - that was the point!

That sketch got dark at the end, as it implied a prisoner planned to rape Mrs. Falbo! :help:

And Joey’s soap (did it have a name?) where he portrayed Dr. Drake Ramore.

And for those who hate Friends, or, even better, for those who love the show, Matt LeBlanc’s Episodes is criminally underrated, even though he won an Emmy. It’s the funniest comedy series I’ve seen in years. (I caught up to it this year after the series had been completed. LeBlanc plays himself, post-Friends, and totally redeems himself. )

Thanks, I didn’t remember that his fake character was on a real show. The episode that featured his demise had to have been a LOT of fun for the writers.
