Please, no songs written for wives here. That thread would be both endless and boring.

Looking for famous women who inspired a famous song. Patti Harrison inspiring Clapton's "Layla" does not count, because, other than being George Harrison's wife, she was not well known. Nor do not give examples like the girl who inspired The Knack's "My Sharona." Once again, she was not a well known woman.

Once again, famous women who inspired famous songs.

    Two examples:

Judy Collins inspired "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" by Crosby, Stills & Nash

Clare Grogan lead singer for the band Altered Images (you know, "Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday...") was the inspiration for the Spandau Ballet song "True."

    Others? And no wives.

Pandora's Box by OMD is about Louise Brooks.
Plus, of course, they also had two songs about the same woman: Joan of Arc and Maid of Orleans.

    Lee Remick by the Go-Betweens.

The lyrics make me smile every single time. Once upon a time, I expressed to former Go-Betweens bassist Robert Vickers that it was one of my favorite songs ever, by anyone. About a week later, I received the most beautiful blue t-shirt in the mail from Robert with a picture of the original Able Label label from the 45. One of my most treasured possessions, honestly. Robert is a great guy, and that band... some days I can’t even believe they existed.

Anyway.... The Go-Betweens - Lee Remick

Some say that Jackson Browne's "Fountain of Sorrow" was inspired by his relationship with Joni Mitchell... but that has never been confirmed.
