Here is a great obscure one. With an a pre-fame unknown Linda Ronstadt on backing vocals.

Dusty Springfield - I'll Love You For Awhile. Sorry didn't realize you may not be able to see certain youtube links in your country.

Thanks. I didn't realise it was a country restrictive thing. Not sure why that happens sometimes, it seems random.

"Sometime in the Morning" is hands-down my favorite G/K song, and the Monkees' record is pop perfection. It doesn't get much better than this.

(It must be admitted that vocal double-tracking nicely masks a few pitch problems here and there; but as an overall effect it just works.)

"Pleasant Valley Sunday" and "Goin' Back" are also brilliant. For the latter, I'll take Carole's demo, thanks.

:-plnktn-: People here are probably more familiar with both the Everly Brothers and Status Quo album cuts, but this version was actually released as an A-side:

Raintree Minority / You're Just What I Was Looking For Today

:kilroy: This was recorded by a lot of different people, but the original is still the best:

Betty Everett / I Can't Hear You No More

:kilroy: This was later recorded by Marianne Faithfull and Melinda Marx, but the original is still the best:

:kilroy: Steve & Eydie's rendition of this charted a little higher, but this is the superior version. I think a couple of measures might've partially inspired a bit of the melody of Mike Nesmith's tune "Good Clean Fun."

my friend awhile back named his new church Pleasant Valley, he laughed when i asked about the origin...

by the time of the single release it became a lot more...... OMINOUS... to live like PVS, the ending seems apocalyptic to me... :D

The version by Mark Eitzel might be lesser known, but I like it, too.

    Another one:

Na Allen - No Easy Way Down

The Detroit soul singer Na Allen Na only cut a handful of 45s in the early seventies.
"No Easy Way Down" was released as a single B-side (c/w "Thanks for Nothing") on ATCO Records in 1970.
Na Allen is the brother of Denise LaSalle.

My favorite version is the soaring version on CK's "Writer" album

Not surprisingly, the Everlys recorded a few from this catalog. I heard this one long before it would ever occur to me to be interested in the writers, and someone on You Tube has put up a killer video accompaniment to "How Can I Meet Her".

:kilroy: The Turtles and The Monkees recorded this, but I believe that this is the definitive version. The lyrics make more sense with a female singing them:

Shirley Abicair / So Goes Love

Nice song, Sounds like some kind of early demo. Who's singing on this one? I'm guessing it's not Peter since his picture is nowhere to be found on the cover haha :shh:

Mike Nesmith! At least I'm not the only one who gets their vocals confused sometimes. When Peter sings well, he sounds like Nez!
