We had a dedicated thread on her, a couple of years ago, but it was quickly derailed by an overzealous Lizabeth Scott fan: In Praise of Linda Darnell
I couldn't believe that nobody mentioned Ann Sheridan (a/k/a "The Oomph Girl") until two posts ago: She was especially good with Jimmy Cagney in 1940's Torrid Zone.
You like to think they live their lives off-screen, like onscreen, but they don't, unfortunately. I've watched this clip many times and she certainly matches Fred move-for-move, so perfect.
She wasn't on my list, but I have always found her name quite charming. So I did a little research and found her story compelling. Olivia de Havilland Although it was an estranged relationship, she is the older sister of actress Joan Fontaine. She dated Howard Hughes, Jimmy Stewart, and director John Huston. She also took flying lessons from the first two. She starred in films with Errol Flynn; and portrayed the character, "Melanie Hamilton," in the epic film, "Gone With The Wind;" and — she is still alive at 103.
Grace Kelly was a stunning woman, without compare Rita Hayworth is my #2 for sheer looks But I don't think either one could have delivered a performance like Ava in Night of the Iguana or Ingrid's dying role as Golda Meier.
Agree. For talent and personality, as well as looks, my money is on Maureen O’Hara and Ingrid Bergman, (but not familiar with Ava Gardner's work).
No kidding. Grace Kelly was absolutely stunning. A gorgeous woman if there ever was one and a damn fine actress.
I like to see these "Before and after". It's nice to be able to still see the beauty in the old-age star.
Much of Ava's stuff is not in great flicks. She really had to step up her game when she wo0rked with Huston and Richard Burton
