Very very tough, as its probably my favorite year of music, especially as I was a fifteen year old, so music was really mattering to me—I was getting completely consumed by punk rock and the New York scen. And any number of my favorite albums of all-time, or albums that turned me on to my now favorite bands, since then, are from 1977.

But my gut and heart and mind and soul and feet tell me—I join those who selected Television - Marquee Moon.

1977 was a very good year for music. I could never choose just one favorite album.

The "Alive And Well" LP by Bob Luman which was produced by Bob's neighbor and friend, Johnny Cash.

'Big River' was written by Johnny Cash. Bob Luman's version includes Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash providing harmony vocals and guitar. Recorded at House of Cash Recording Studio.

'Rattus Norvegicus' by the Stranglers. I know this is a somewhat 'uncool' selection, but it was released fairly early in '77 and so was the first Punk album I was exposed to. The Clash's debut album and 'My aim is true' came along in the summer of that year -- 'Never mind the bollocks' much later than that...

'Rattus Norvegicus' planted the flag of punk for me and lit the flame. It was totally unlike anything I'd ever heard before -- like it had been beamed in from outer space. It had energy, speed, attitude and something indefinably 'new', thrilling and amazing. I still get that feeling when I hear it now. It is the sound of Revolution in the air. As you listened to it for the first time you knew nothing would ever be quite the same again. Punk had arrived.

But of course. I liked a lot of punk, but this is how you really snarl at our shallow society.

I love the three singles, but it all gets a bit samey after that. Interesting times.

And now we have Ed Sheeran.

The last of the classic run. And it has Awaken. Heavenly.

Thanks! Never heard of them, and the first vid I find demonstrates a deliciously iconoclastic and entirely genre-appropriate disrespect for canned corporate lip-synch productions. I'd suspect a brilliant parody, but this appears to predate the era of music videos. Incidentally, it appears one of the commenters might be on to something with regard to apparent lyrics mouthed circa 1:23.

And they literally tear apart the stage: this might be on of the greatest visual metaphorical moments in punk history!

In any event, sharp writing and that razor wire / rapid fire sound warrant further investigation.
