Not that Howard Jones - this Howard Jones! The other Howard Jones is for dopes. Then of course there's Howie Jones, but, the less said...
Yep, I love all that type of stuff. Whitecross, Saint, Stryper, Bloodgood, etc. I have all of the Barren Cross albums on CD so no need for the remasters. I did see it on Boone's site that they were being reissued.
There's only one Christian musician that I've ever connected with, and that's Bill Mallonee of Vigilantes of Love.
Bill is apparently having a hard time right now. Some of his recent Facebook posts have been pretty urgent. Hoping his circumstances improve soon.
Stupidly, I sold all my original CDs a number of years ago...had to pay the mortgage and was unemployed at the time...BC, Bloodgood, Whitecross, Mortification, Bride, Fear Not, The Brave, X-Sinner and a number of samplers like California metal, East Coast Metal, etc (anything that looked like hair metal)...held on to my Stryper, Rez Band, Disciple, Demon Hunter...got some nice coin, but it was gone within days...time to restock with "the essentials"...
always kind of wondered about Bryan Ferry when I first heard PSALM from Stranded (1973) I thought "what the deuce??) is he a believer? not sure but his lyrics can be very heady... Always wondered about the song "More Than This" as well...(specially in view of the video)
BTW, when it comes to Michele Pillar's Sparrow Records recordings, the best sources to get are the original vinyl LPs of the original albums and the Compact Favorites compilation is the best sounding CD compilation of her hits although the Forever Young comp sold on her website is more comprehensive, it omits To Worship You otherwise all of the hits and many key album tracks are on it, the Forever Young comp is a loudness war victim. The Misfit album with Erick Nelson is available on CD-R on Michele Pillar's site and the pressed CD issue from Maranatha is OOP and The Misfit CD-R is decently mastered although a little bit loud, not as objectionably so compared to the Forever Young comp of her hits. There He Was on Compact Favorites is the radio edit while the version on the Forever Young CD is the full album version. In fact, the albums themselves are on download and streaming services and are loudness war victims.
Jars of Clay will always be my favorite. I'm not particularly religious anymore but back in my church going days, I saw those guys about 9 times or so. Incredibly nice, funny, and super talented. Also, MuteMath, who seems to have an on-again/off-again relationship with the Christian music scene.
2nd that mention of Aunt Bettys!! (I am big fan of Michael Knott--and his various side projects Aunt Bettys L.S.U. Michael Knott--Strip cycle, Fluid (great concept Rock Opera album!) Life of David, Hearts of Care, Rocket and a Bomb Cush other artists I still listen to Plumb (anything by her is amazing!) The Prayer Chain Between Thieves (great underrated band from late 90's, kind of rock/grungy sound!) Project 86 Mat Kearney---Love all his stuff as well!
. Michael Sweet had an incredible voice... Saw him live in 2014 and he has lost it sadly, but as spaniards say, "que no le quiten lo bailao!".
Must have been an off night. His voice was so strong and impressive (especially considering his age) the last few times I saw Stryper. The last three albums might just be their best.
