Some movie intros are pieces of art in and of themselves. And some are just captivating without being high art.

Not a terrific movie, IMHO, but I liked that opening. I remember the audience being surprised when it happened.

What are some of your favorites?

Star Wars - A New Hope is fantastic as well.

Just having the giant ship pass after the small one was enough to convey what was going on and it was impressive to boot!

This. The opening to William Friedkin's fantastic "To Live and Die in L.A.". 80s at their best

'Once Upon A Time In The West' is one of my favorites.

Known for its 3:20 tracking shot, 'A Touch Of Evil' is pretty good:

Both Francis Ford Coppola scripts, both establish the character at the heart of the film and in doing so, lay out the value structure in place:

I watched High Noon for the first time two weeks ago and when my mom came in, she started singing along with the song out of the blue - it was great to see her joy upon hearing the song again after what was probably quite a long time. :agree:

The opening credit sequence to Sam Peckinpah’s The Getaway is a masterful piece of filmmaking, summing up the boredom and frustration of prison life in a few short minutes.

The Player by Robert Altman has a long tracking shot in the beginning; unfortunately it's not available by itself on YouTube.

And my favorite mafioso movie. Martin Scorsese is/was a genius. 90 seconds.

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a gangster.

Bladerunner, sets the mood for the whole film with a perfect music score, 1 minute in then again about 1:45 with the reflection in the eye of Deckard.
