  3. Immediately popped to my mind when I read the thread title.
This is THE movie opening I remember most, for a bunch of reasons.

  4. I have always liked the into to Kelly's Heroes. I begins somewhat serene. A few military guys in a jeep in the rain. Soon you realize it is NOT what it appears to be and all heck breaks loose, setting the tone for the rest of the movie. Plus is has Burning Bridges, which is a great song.

It's not one of the best openings. There! What do I win? :p

Silverado...especially the end of the scene where he opens the door to reveal that magnificent, wide open canyon shot.

Thanks for shedding some light on it.
Like I said, I never saw the film, but stumbled on the opening a while back.

When I was a kid I absolutely loved the opening sequence to "Where Eagles Dare". Enjoyed watching it again just now!

Due to adult content I won’t link here, but the opening sequence of Cammell/Roeg’s PERFORMANCE is a dazzling montage of movement, stillness, sound and silence. In that first 3 minutes I think there are over a hundred cuts thanks to Frank Mazzola’s brilliant editing.
Randy Newman also rocks out on Jack Nitzsche’s “Gone Dead Train” while James Fox has his way with Miss World Ann Sidney.

The opening credits were just after the initial opening sequence. Love the minimalist "futuristic" approach of it.

The shades open up (the movie is begining - a nod to when theaters would have a curtain that opened up) Then we learn about all the inhabitants of a block of apartments, introduced to the protagonist, why he's stuck in his apartment, how he got that way, what he does for a living, whom his girlfriend is, and how they met.

All without a *single line of dialog*

They call him the master for a reason.

You beat me to it. Probably my favorite introduction to any movie. Why doesn't somebody oil that squeaky windmill? It is so damn annoying. And that damn fly?

Bronson: "You bring a horse for me."

    [laugh, snicker, smart ass response]

Bronson again: "No, you got two too many."

Yes, it borders on comical, but I like the intro to Troy. Boagrius vs. Achilles:

I'm sorry the person who uploaded this didn't edit out a bunch of blank stuff at the front... , but this is the opening for The Innocents (1961)

It's dramatic anyway, but if you watch it again after seeing the film it's awesome

I can safely include the pre-credits openings of every 007 movie, particularly Goldeneye thru Die Another Day (Brosnan fan).

Always liked the beginning of Cliffhanger with the woman falling to her death.

    Just about any Bond movie.
