The Godfather (1) , masterfully done , in colors , lighting , acting, editing , dialogue.
Raiders of the Lost Ark, can't beat for non stop action, suspense.
For Bond - The Spy Who Loved Me - love the skiing scene , and when the parachute opens as the Union Jack and the hands clasp around it in opening credits .
Casino Royale - very exciting , athletic race , great intro to the newest 007.

What starts with a funeral/memorial scene segues into the amazing cinematography of the "running on the beach" with the Vangelis main theme. What's so great about this short scene is how the camera moves from one runner to the next and effortlessly established the personality of that character for the movie to come. Its deft, delightful, and so well thought out.

  12. "The Thing" and "Blade Runner" both have brilliantly staged openings. "Alien" is iconic. The opening for "Captain America: Winter Soldier" also brilliantly opens with a terrific set piece that has relevance throughout the entire MCU.

I think the award should go to Mean Streets where Keitel and Scorsese do the voiceovers for the conversation with...well...who is Scorsese speaking for?

Scorsese: You don't make up for your sins in church. You do it in the streets. You do it at home. The rest is ******** and you know it.
Keitel: It's all ******** except the pain. The pain of hell. The burn from a lighted match increased a million times. Infinite. Now, ya don't **** around with the infinite. There's no way you do that. The pain in hell has two sides. The kind you can touch with your hand; the kind you can feel in your heart... your soul, the spiritual side. And ya know... the worst of the two is the spiritual.

While the typeface of the titles is mildly interesting, the intro as a whole is rather simplistic.

However, that opening shot, black silouett of the front door opening, looking outside is worth the price of admission.

This indescribably moody opening knocked me out when I first saw it... and it still does. I do like the film overall - it's probably the most accessible and least unpleasant Lars Von Trier film out there - but it never again reaches the heights of that amazing pre-credit sequence.
