Probably my favorite (re)mix of MJ's "Thriller" currently out there (mostly replicates the video version but this has the full Vincent Price rap):
Definitely Dickey Lee's #14 hit from 1965, "Laurie (Strange Things Happen)." It's based on an urban legend/ghost story. I know it's manipulative with its key change in the last verse and all, but it still gets me spooked (and a bit sad) every time.
Billy Bragg -- She's Got A New Spell A fine witchy pop song. Contains a favorite couplet: One minute she says She's gone to get the cat in The next thing I know She's mumbling in Latin
Here's another spooky one. The Strawberry Alarm Clock's "Curse Of The Witches." From their second album, Wake Up...It's Tomorrow.
Twice, I did radio shows right before or on Halloween before my schedule prohibited it. Both times, I opened with this obscurity. From 2005, this is sort of a parody of Band Aid featuring numerous alt-rock band members (members of Arcade Fire, Rilo Kiley, Sonic Youth, Sparks, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc., plus Beck, Devendra Banhart, Feist, Roky Erickson, to name a few), and others such as Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. The ad-hoc group called itself "North American Hallowe’en Prevention Initiative" and the song is "Do They Know It's Hallowe'en?" It raised money for UNICEF.
"Werewolf Bar Mitzvah" by Tracy Morgan I was working late on my Haftorah When I heard a knock on my bedroom door-ah I opened it up, and to my surprise There was a werewolf standing there with glowing gold eyes He says "Tomorrow my son, you will be a man, But tonight's the time to join the wolfen clan. Tomorrow you will stand at the bimah and pray, But tonight let's gaze at the moon and bay." Werewolf Bar Mitzvah, spooky scary Boys becoming men... Men becoming wolves .... Then my teeth turned into fangs, and my nails into claws And I nearly dropped the Torah when my hands turned into paws I growled and I roared, and my rabbi did as well It was a rocking werewolf zoo at Temple Beth-Emmanuel
Didn't see this one posted: "Halloween" by Helloween, which was a fitting anthem for all wild kids running around the suburbs back in 1987, throwing eggs and spraying shaving cream everywhere
