For me it's "Chilly chilly is the evening time, Waterloo sunset's fine". What's yours?
Among one of many, "The pump don't work cuz the vandals took the handles".
"Be sincere, convince me with a 'pretty please'"
The Beau Brummels, Laugh Laugh
First one I thought of. Probably many more.
" There's something happenin' here..."
"...but many brave men are returning,
back to the place where it had begun
and all our chalices are still burning,
where the devil's bones lay parching in the sun...."
Scarlet and Gold
We Want The World And We Want It Now... now .... NOW!
When The Music's Over - The Doors
While one who sings with his tongue on fire
Gargles in the rat race choir
Bent out of shape from society's pliers
Cares not to come up any higher
But rather get you down in the hole
That he's in
It's Alright Ma - Bob Dylan.... and I could pull most of the verses out..... Magnificent song
Yeah, there's a monster on the loose
It's got our heads into a noose
And it just sits there watchin'
" Money doesn' t talk , it swears. Obscenity, who really cares. Propaganda, all is phony."
Alongside a myriad of others, "He stopped to look at the sun one day, He didn't realize that he would be there to stay"
"I don't know where, but she sends me there." - Good Vibrations
"Try to realize it's all within yourself, no-one else can make you change" - George Harrison
"When you're lost in the rain in Juarez
And it's Eastertime too..."
-Bob Dylan (from "Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues")
I hope I die before I get old
"Is it tomorrow, or just the end of time?" - Purple Haze
"Inside the museums, Infinity goes up on trial
Voices echo this is what salvation must be like after a while"
"But she'll just hear that phone keep on ringing off the wall ..., that's all."
When Glen Campbell sings that line in "By The Time I Get To Phoenix", it cuts like a knife, in realistic lyrics. Jimmy Webb provided that great lyric, but it was Glen who sang it so effectively.
"THIS WHOLE CRAZY WORLD IS JUST TOO FRUSTRATIN'"
Written for Nina Simone during a period of social upheaval, this song (and, in particular, this line) tapped into something timeless and essential. It’s a good mantra:
I’m just a soul whose intentions are good
Oh lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood
EVIL MAN MAKE ME KILL YA
EVIL MAN MAKE YOU KILL ME
EVIL MAN MAKE ME KILL YOU
EVEN THOUGH WE'RE ONLY FAMILIES APART
"Everybody seems to think I'm lazy, I don't mind, I think they're crazy"
Here's a clever one:
"And though the holes were rather small, they had to count them all, now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall"
Suspended under a twilight canopy
Walkin' about, even in a crowd, well
You'll pick her out, makes a bloke feel so proud
Come tomorrow, may I be bolder than today
"...Technicolour dreams is all I see,
Technicolour dreams of you and me!"
- Status Quo, 1968.
