    Back to the Future.

It just holds together so well. And it's so well thought out.

I thought of Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi. To me it bogs down after a while.

And now the Matrix trilogy. Very entertaining. And I'm still thinking it through. I just saw Reloaded on DVD, never saw it in the theater, then followed it up with Revolutions in the theater. I enjoyed it, but in the end it becomes a lot of fighting and war. It loses me.

    Others?

Although Star Wars held the spot for many years...I have to resign to LOTRs. Yeah, I know the third installment ain't out yet but based on the first 2 flix I like it better than SWs.

Have to say Star Wars. I would say Lord Of The Rings, but I consider it one long movie, as the books are really one long book, and not a true trilogy. Would have mentioned Indiana Jones, since I love the first and third ones, but the second one really sucks. As for the Matrix, they should have stopped after the first one.

    Agreed! ;)

    Other worthy candidates:

    Francis Coppola's "Godfather" trilogy
Sergio Leone's "Man With No Name" trilogy
    Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Three Colors" trilogy
George Romero's "Dead" trilogy (though Day sucks, IMO)
    Baz Luhrmann's "Red Curtain" trilogy
Chuck Jones's "Rabbit Season-Duck Season" trilogy

I can't believe you left the Godfather and Indiana Jones films off of the list. I guess the fact that they are preparing another Indiana Jones film sort of invalidates it as a trilogy, though. :)

Another good one is Satyajit Ray's "Apu" trilogy.

My 'Other' would probably be Fassbinder's BRD Trilogy (The Marriage of Maria Braun, Veronika Voss & Lola) at the moment as I've just bought the Criterion release. Satyajit Ray's Apu Trilogy and Krzysztof Kieslowski's Trois couleurs would be pretty close behind.

I agree - 'The Lord of the Rings' probably followed by Indianna Jones.
Star wars just has not aged well.

I voted for Back to The Future, not only because I love those films, but because I haven't seen any of the others in the poll.

I agree. These are both blockbuster trilogies and for my money the Jones trilogy is superior to the others on the list. Godfather has the best 1/2 punch but III was a dissaster.

Another lesser know trilogy is Jean Cocteau's Orphic Trilogy available via Criterion as a set.

I'd have to vote for "other" as well since Indiana Jones isn't in there. I think it should STAY a trilogy, but maybe they'll get the new one right.

I'd second Back to the Future but the middle one kinda sucked.

Its a pity there was not another follow up to American Graffiti 2 !

I suppose it would have to be "The Godfather" trilogy, even though for me

the 3RD installment was a disappointment IMO.

Or "Once Upon A Time In The West", "Once Upon a time In America",

and "Once Upon A Time In Mexico" (homage) again the 3RD installment

    was, you guessed.....disappointing!

STAR WARS is still the trilogy to beat for me though LOTR's is closing fast.

Others that are very good are The Godfathers/ Mad Max's/ The Evil Dead's/ Raiders/ Back To The Future's/ The Man With No Names/ Jurassic Park's

I watch Beverly Hills Cop and Die Hard triology DVDs the most often.
I have back to the future and Indiana Jones also - sold Godfather.

There is only one way to judge a film -- by the beauty of its actresses. By that standard, Krzysztof Kieslowski's "Three Colors" trilogy wins hands down: Irene Jacob, Juliette Binoche, Zbigniew Zamachowski. You can watch these with the sound and subtitles off.

There's supposed to be good stories and filmcraft, too, but who really cares? The trilogy's available as an inexpensive set.

Star Wars. Nothing can compete with something that shaped your vision of the future when you were a kid.

Heck, I became a fencer because of the lightsaber duels!!! :D

I'll take the Godfather over Star Wars any day (yes even taking into account part III). The prequels have tainted the Star Wars magic (along with George Lucas' so called "special editions").

Since I haven't seen "Return of the King" yet I can't say it's better than the Star Wars trilogy. I'm confident that the conclusion to the LOTR movies won't be the total disaster that The Matrix "Revolutions" was.

Not a whole lot of great ones to pick from. Back to the Future was good, but i really thought the 1st was by far the best, the 2nd not so good, and the 3rd pretty good. Star Wars, to me hasn't aged that well. I might go with the Godfather even though the 3rd was horrific, just because the 1st 2 wers so transcendently excellent.

As a couple of other folk have mentioned: Three Colours by Kieslowski. Beautiful women, stories that changed how I see the world, magnificent filming. And, as an added bonus, the best movies to drink wine with!
