My all time favorite film is probably Wim Wenders' Until the End of the World - director's cut (the 3 DVD version).

I liked the first 3 hours of "The Best of Youth" -- I was more interested in Mateo, the brother who.... you know.

Mean Streets - best use of music ever, too, the live Steppin' Out by Cream. Scorsese gets chided for his overreliance on the Stones, but I think he uses Clapton almost as much, and to better effect. See also Sunshine Of Your Love in Goodfellas.

Then in no real order: Godfather I & II, Raging Bull, Apocalypse Now, Taxi Driver, Dog Day Afternoon, Badlands, The 400 Blows, Repulsion, Seven Samurai, Aguirre The Wrath Of God, The Exorcist, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Streetcar Named Desire, On The Waterfront, Dr Strangelove, Goodfellas, The King Of Comedy, Sorcerer, McCabe and Mrs Miller, Rosemary's Baby.

Best film of recent years: Under The Skin.

Yeah, I related to Mateo far more than to his brother. But I still loved the movie after...you know. ;)

Can’t stand Goodfellas. Blows my mind even trying to comprehend the praise people give it when watching that right after the Godfather trilogy for the first time. All flash, no substance. Didn’t leave me with a thing to think about after it was all over, whilst The Hodfather had me analysing and reading people’s thoughts on each damn scene.

Just stirring up the pot. I’m not a movie person, so my favourites are totally boring:
    1. The Godfather
    2. Blade Runner
    3. The Godfather II
    4. Alien
    5. The Godfather III
    6. Aliens
Don’t care about anything else. I’ll chuck in M*A*S*H the TV show as it had such a big impact on me unlike anything any other show or movie has before or since.

Just the scene of Michael and that guy outside the hospital housing Don Corleone offers more drama and psychological insight than the entirety of GoodFellas. :D

But, man, the flash of GoodFellas can’t be denied. At least I can’t do it.

    Yup!
Unfortunately I can’t even respect the movie for its flashiness.
I’d love to watch it again without comparing it to The Godfather as I realise they’re very different movies, I just went in with different expectations and was highly disappointed.

Different strokes for different folks- I consider "Goodfellas" to be probably the greatest American film of the last 30 years , along with "Pulp Fiction". And tied with "Raging Bull" as Scorsese's best film ever.

    Forgot two:

The Three Days Of The Condor - Because I love 70's paranoid conspiracy movies
The Conversation - The Godfather is outstanding and everything, but this is my favorite Coppola movie. Hackman's performance was *genius*

I agree about "The Conversation" because he wrote it.. When you have the greatest actor of all-time w/ Marlon Brando (and some other greats) and the #1 selling-book, you'd have to be a ***** to screw it up.
