Love, love the George Benson piece. Never got into this film, but do respect the storytelling, choreography and editing here. Other than the movie title itself, where are the rest of the credits? If they come later yet, wondering why this opening isn't long enough to include them.
Opening/Main Title music is kind of a little hobby of mine. I've got spotify play lists with about two thousand songs that are played over movie main titles from 50s to the present. Somewhere in there, when I was building my lists I added "Married Woman" by Frankie Lee Sims. I've used every internet search that I can think of and can't crack this mystery. Does anyone know a movie that uses this song over the main title or otherwise? If my list is correct, it would have been somewhere in the 1980-1984 range.
Silverado: Awoken from a slumber in his shack, Scott Glen blows away several assailants with some fancy shooting, The camera follows hm as he goes outside revealing his location up on a mountainside with a spectacular view overlooking a river valley with buttes and desert stretching off into the distance.
I do not know the answer to that. I love the dance sequence and music as well, but tbh, as a main title I was really grabbed by everything from the opening cough to "It's showtime!"
My personal fav- The openening scene from the 1995 mini-series based on the Stephen King novel The Stand.
My favorite is probably "Once Upon A Time In The West". Not only is the opening sequence amazing, but each of the main characters in the movie have their own entrance set to music. A classic!
I’d like to nominate the short lived sitcom Close to Home, starring Paul Nicholas. It has a great theme tune, sung by Nicholas himself. Sadly I can’t find the sequence fully but it is at the beginning of this Dailymotion upload
Kojak television show opening. Seasons 2–4, 1974–1976. I never cared for the show, but this opening is interesting. .
YouTube's currently offering the entire movie but found the intro impressive enough for a separate mention:
This is actually an end title sequence, but it's one of my favorites. Love the shots of the main cast accompanied by the Peter Gabriel/Deep Forest track. Good film from Kathryn Bigelow.
Austin Powers in Goldmember was a massive disappointment to me but the opening sequence is one of my favorites ever. May be even funnier now, in this era of reboots etc.
The Sweeney. Classic UK cop show from the 70s, John Thaw was fantastic as Regan. The opening/closing themes are different versions of the same tune - the closing theme is sublime.
I actually thought "Goldmember" was a fine return to form after the iffy "Shagged". I might like "Goldmember" more than "Mystery"!
